ssd - ice cold weak lager/shandy with lime cordial in it is the answer to that problem. Drink it from a wine glass so you take it slowly

I wouldn't usually drink that early but it's been a busy week, it's been a shit week, I haven't got to ferry around any children tonight (normally not "off duty" on a Friday until 8.30pm), DP is cooking dinner, it's sunny and it's half term.

Dh is a recovering alcoholic (5 years clean now)

He says he wouldn't mind me having one but it just feels a bit mean having one at home (I have a drink when we are out)

DD1 is currently on the train home with her new boyfriend who she is bringing to meet us all for the first time. I have prepared a lovely dinner and DD2 has helped me clean up the house. I am enjoying lovely cool soda and lime right now before heading for a shower but i have a nice bottle of fizz chilling in the fridge for later. Proper stuff - not prosecco. I also have lots of nice gin for sampling too.

I have been driving myself insane trying to emulate my own perfect overbearing mother.

Never drinking, because of the children. Never going out, never thinking of myself, never putting a foot wrong because it's always about being the 'best' mother.

I've not touched a drop since I first fell pregnant (four years ago) with dd. Ds is just over one now and still breastfed.

I've realised it's utter bullshit. Id rather give my children the happy relaxed woman I used to be than this neurotic mess.

So tonight, I've cracked open a bottle of red with dh.
