To get rid of cleaner? [Pic]

Yesterday my cleaner(s) came. It's a local business run by one woman who gets others to work with her. I pay for 3 hours fortnightly, and we get either 3 or 2 people coming in for 1 or 1.5 hours. This happens when DH and I are both at work, and the main woman isn't always there. We pay afterwards by bank transfer.

Last night I opened a tin of half used lip balm by my bed to find someone had gouged it with a finger. It's a Vaseline tin so no way the lid would have come off accidentally. I didn't do it and I'm sure it wasn't DH. I used it in the morning before work and it was fine then.

This feels incredibly intrusive and I lay awake before going to sleep, just thinking about someone going through my stuff.

I want to stop using this business. Do I tell her the truth, or just say we can't afford it any more? I won't see her so I won't be able to do it face to face. Should I change my front door lock, given that several different people will have had access to the key? I feel really icky about it all, and bad about having to tell her (because I do trust her and I'm sure she didn't do it).

Help!

Doesn't look melted to me and I hate it when people mess with my lip balm.
Borrow it, fine. Mess up the smooth pattern - not fine.

Dunno if it's worth sacking them over though.

ElphabaStrop · 26/05/2017 17:18

Maybe it is the burglary that's got you on edge then. That's understandable. If you decided you don't want cleaners at all at the moment then that's fair enough.

On the other hand, you have zero proof that one of the cleaners has done this, so to sack them for it if they've never put a foot wrong in the last 18 months is unreasonable.

BlurryFace · 26/05/2017 17:21

Surely if you were going to do that to it, you'd just take the £1 lip balm entirely so it could be chalked up as lost? And what cleaner would risk their livelihood to piss you off by vandalising lip balm? If you were that weird, surely you'd break an expensive ornament instead?

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 26/05/2017 17:31

Thanks everyone for helping me be a bit more rational about it. I think I probably am still a bit freaked by our burglary, which was only about a month ago. I keep thinking about how much worse it would feel if it had been our house rather than our garage, which is in a block. So I'm probably letting my imagination run away with me.

Have already bought a new lip balm!

each cleaner is only getting one hour a fortnight from OP ,so I can't believe it would be a big loss to them.Maybe they were looking for a way out as the job is too small?

38cody · 26/05/2017 17:45

I agree its melted - pls don't get this woman in trouble when you are not 100% sure. Just ditch the company, change the locks and get one regular person.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 26/05/2017 17:48

I can't believe you want to sack a cleaner for potentially putting a finger in your lip balm.

acquilegiannie · 26/05/2017 17:53

DailyMailReaders,

There is absolutely NO proof that cleaner opened the tin and smeared the lip balm at all. None.

But maybe OP should bring the tin to the police station for fingerprints and forensics first before sacking.

Back story is the burglary, which is understandable, but I have to say the reaction is a little oTT. Just me obv.

AStickInTime · 26/05/2017 17:54

If she used it she'd have covered it over, surely?

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 26/05/2017 17:55

Melted. Not used.

CherryMintVanilla · 26/05/2017 18:03

It wouldn't melt like that is it was sitting flat. I think someone has helped themselves to it. You're sure your DH wouldn't take some?

It would be a weird thing to do though as it's very noticeable - you'd think they would smooth it back over...

MrsKenningtonBag · 26/05/2017 18:17

It looks melted to me too

acquilegiannie · 26/05/2017 18:23

I'm melting too, and it ain't a pretty sight either. 24degrees here and not a breath.

The Bombay Sapphire is helping now that OH came home and took it out of the fridge for us. Yummy.

My posts will deteriorate. But I am sure you will understand.

Sorry OP. A lip gloss is not worth the hassle. And it was melted anyway IMV.

brexitstolemyfuture · 26/05/2017 19:38

Those kids can come off when you drop it

acquilegiannie · 26/05/2017 19:56

Well has the cleaner been sacked or what?

That was the premise of the thread starter. So get back and tell us how you handled lip gloss Gate. Thanks.
