There seems to have been a big increase in these recently, and I dont get why!

They are not filled with gardening/farming equipment and clearly used rurally, but immaculately clean with those "boxes" or whatever they are called creating a normal boot. So why bother? They are so wide that a lot of UK b roads are too narrow for them to pass another vehicle, they are no more useful or practical than other 4x4 cars and they are very expensive to buy and insure. There are now several on the school run and its bad enough around school at the best of times, without these behemoths taking up masses of space. You cant park next to one in bay parking as they are so wide and they are UGLY!

I have noticed that a certain type of man seems to drive them, flame me for making generalisations, and I am wondering if they are the new generation of Mid Life Crisis Car.

I think it is because in a crash they know they would come out safer ( but ay the expense of the other party).

They have always been popular here but as I live between two USAF bases it's to be expected! A lot of the Americans transport their cars over rather than buy a RHD car depending on their deployment length. There is a big second hand market too as many get sold before redeployment or a return to the US.

They're fun to drive, eejits in wee nippy cars are less likely to intimidate you, they feel a lot safer (imo), they're great for towing, you can put the dogs in the covered truck-bed and avoid hairs in the seats, they're pretty reliable, you don't need to pay to get big items delivered, you can get loads of shopping in it!...but they're a bugger to find parking for!

I don't think OP realizes that Americans and Canadians class the pickups available in the UK as "midsize" if they saw a full size I wonder what would happen!

Omg! You guys are geniuses! I'd never thought of asking bil to borrow it to shlep dhorse around! Wineall round! Grin

We had 2 until recently when someone nicked my hilux the night I gave birth to my son!

I got mine to tow horses around. Then OH ended up getting one because of the less tax as a company car. They are a lot cheaper to buy than similar sized 4x4s and extremely usefull

We have four, and every one is bigger than your "massive" UK pick ups Grin
