The NDNs have been partying for 12 hours now

They started at 2pm and still going strong now at 2am (I'm in France). They are outside, with music blaring, screams, etc. They don't often make much noise but 2-3 times a year they have these ridiculously long parties. 12 hours and no end in sight!

We live in a very very small hamlet and I don't want to fall out with them, it would make life very unpleasant. Another neighbour has a six month old baby so hopefully she will crack first and call the police!

my neighbours do this all the time, except they put the music on at 11pm / 3 am or some other ridiculous time and keep it going the rest of the night / following day. I hate them.

and it's pleasant now? they don't seem bothered about being pleasant!

go round and explain the impact of their party!

NotYoda · 26/05/2017 14:15

Ah, the rural idyll!

So you don't even want to go and talk to them at all?

It's not unreasonable for you to tell them it's kept you up all night and ask them to turn it down

Booboostwo · 26/05/2017 19:35

They finally fucked off at 5pm, they all beeped their horns all the way down the road as they were leaving. Inconsiderate twats!

How does anyone survive a party that lasts days? I mean, what do they do for all that time??
Surely there's a point where you think 'right I need my bed now' or maybe I'm too old

winobaglady · 26/05/2017 19:43

I don't have a problem with parties lasting a weekend, but I do expect to be told in advance.
YANBU if you weren't forewarned.

Booboostwo · 26/05/2017 20:41

I have the best news ever! NDN no2, the one whose loose dog had a go at mine this morning, is now having a party! Less screaming overall but loud music. They have the six month old baby as well, so kudos to them if they keep it up all night. I give up and plan to take my sad, party-less life to somewhere far far away with absolutely no neighbours.

Now they are shouting. What is it with the shouting? Why do grown adults sit in their gardens and do coordinated shouting and cheering?

DS has a fever of 39.5 so no chance of any sleep, is there?

Stick your stereo in the window and blast out classical music at max volume

expatinscotland · 26/05/2017 23:50

I would go fucking radge! And a 3-4 day party? Drugs.

Booboostwo · 27/05/2017 07:02

They kept going till the early hours but I was too shattered and fell asleep at some point.

Hell is other people.

My ndn dc who are late teens a couple of times a year have parties which go on till 5am. We're in a semi so the stereo is about 6ft across from my bedroom window. Always on a hot summer night so you boil to death with the windows shut and still hear everything. Now he has a noisy motorbike which he idles on the drive for 20mins before going anywhere and it makes my head vibrate with it's souped up exhaust/engine.

Lostwithinthehills · 27/05/2017 07:50

I think you can deal with a bit of noise

I would describe a bit of noise, with regards to a party, as being able to hear it in the background, as if you can hear a radio set at a normal volume in an adjoining room. What the op is describing is considerably louder than that and unquestionably anti social. Why should she have to cope on two hours sleep three times a year just because her neighbours are too selfish to moderate their noise?

And Sally, why would you wait for your neighbours to knock on your door in the middle of the night to ask for you to turn the volume down? If you have that many parties you must have learnt by now what is a polite volume. Also if someone actually knocks on your door you can guarantee that many of your other neighbours will have been suffering in silence just like the op so you should turn it down by much more than 'a bit'.

Branleuse · 27/05/2017 07:50

the beeping down the road suggests that it was a wedding party thing

NotYoda · 27/05/2017 08:24

Possom

That's my favourite phrase

Booboostwo · 27/05/2017 14:56

Yes they do beep at weddings as they drive from the church to the party venue in a convoy. I think this was more of a goodbye beeping though but who knows!

The irony is that we live on a 14 hectare farm and it was still so loud we could identify the songs with our windows closed.

None of the neighbours have even come out of their houses today. I'll make sure the DCs are extra screechy!
