To ask about gallstones

I have been told I have about 3 small gallstones. All blood tests normal and I've only had one flare up which, whilst v unpleasant, was not the "worse than childbirth" pain that most seem to experience.

Dr was ambivalent really as to whether we take it out or wait and see. I've read very mixed reports online about life without a gallbladder!

Anyone had the surgery? If you had these symptoms, would you whip it out or suck it and see?

Bile duct not bike duct Grin

I would have it out.

My life without my gallbladder is exactly the same as my life with my gallbladder - except without the stress of worrying about it!

And yes, small stones are more dangerous than large ones as they can travel down the bile duct and cause the serious complications of pancreatitis or being trapped in the bile duct which you do not want to have.

I think I may have gallstones...can anyone tell me the symptoms they had?

Mind are a weird bloating and pain in a column on my right abdomen area, digestive system issues, a bubbling feeling. I've previously had random attacks of pain in between my shoulder blades and a really sore stomach which stops any appetite. It isn't happening at the moment so don't feel too bad, although I will see my dr I just wondered if there are similarities.

My DH was in your situation. He had a 'mild' attack a year ago, resolved within an hour, no lasting problems. So he left it.
This week we had an ambulance take him to a&e with a severe attack. He had hours and hours of excruciating pain and is still struggling 5 days later. Needless to say he's now going to have it out asap!
If I were you, if you don't have private healthcare, I'd get on the waiting list and start the process because it can be a long wait anyway.

If youdont get surgery now you need to be sure you can get immediate surgery if attack comes. Any danger of being on a waiting list get it done now. As soon as bad kattack comes you will want it out. I had the worse pain lve ever experienced. I was rolling around the floor literally screaming..ive had 3 chidren..
I have 2 symptoms since. Cream upsets my tummy and l need to use bathroom quite soon after a meal..Both no problem. I also lost one and a half stone in first 2 months as went on fat free diet for 3 weeks as advised and then stuck to some of the regime.
While l waited for surgery coffee was the one thing set it off. But l am sensitive to coffee as it now sets off something else.
The surgery itself is straigbt forward. I also had small stones but BIG attack.

I had mine out 8 weeks ago. One stone 3cm x 3cm and "a handful of gravel". I'm not in uk so managed 4 weeks from gp (following 4 severe attacks in 8 weeks) to removal. Life post surgery is so much easier, and whilst I may not be typical I have had NO side effects whatsoever. I am following a Lo carb, hi fat diet and other than the first week I have had no digestive issues whatsoever.
