AIBU to be far more excited about getting a dog than I was about having children?

I know IABU but I can't help it.

I was petrified having children but the thought of potentially going to pick up a rescue greyhound next week just makes me so excited, even though I know it's going to be hard work too.

(In my defence I quite like the DC now).

YANBU. Dogs are ace. Today, ours "rescued" the hair from DH's haircut out of the bin in the bathroom and tucked it up on DH's side of the bed!

He must have been worried that part of DH was in the wrong place!

I love greyhounds. They're beautiful and affectionate things.

Dogs are so much more fun than kids, I frequently tell my children that I should of had 3 dogs instead of 2 kids and a dog and the kids agree with me

Kokusai yes he's a funny, funny dog. He can't stand it when anyone leaves the house alone....will worry and fret till' they return.

He's fine if we all go out or go out in a pair but if I or DH or one of the DC go, then he thinks "Oh God! They're ALONE!!" and sits by the gate with one the "Missing Person's" socks in his mouth!

OP, YANBU. Dogs also have the benefit of being born already, and not requiring childbirth

Our DC were unplanned and the plan was actually never to have them. - oopps. Love them dearly now obviously and can't imagine what we'd have done if we hadn't had them - though I dare say we'd have found something to occupy our time.

This GH however, has been loooong in the planning - DH feels slightly pressured into it by DD and I but as he says he'll love it when it arrives. He's just not so keen on the pointiness, but he's a real dog-man so once it's here he'll be besotted.

Dogs are way better than children. Dogs bring constant joy and laughter into your life. Children bring snot, whininess and hassle.

I am feeling totally chuffed over my lass today as she's apparently so good looking the dog groomers wants to use her for a grooming show.

I didn't mind the childbirth so much as the baby and toddler rearing, but yes DeadGood you make a valid point.

Greyhounds are so neat somehow...I love their little faces. My brother has one and she's so sweet and funny. She loves to run crazily round the field but at home, she just curls up and sleeps. She sits next to me on the sofa with one "arm" over my knees.

YANBU at all. For a start you don't have to push dogs out of your fanjo!!

I am just the same. I had a bit of ante-natal depression when pregnant with my first and that coupled with physical illness meant I wasn't looking forward to the birth at all.

However we're meeting our potential new Lab puppy on Monday and I can't wait!

We were waiting for our pup from the humane society and of course we had to wait for his 8 week vaccines. We went down to the shelter to measure him up for a collar and after we'd seen him we were chatting with the shelter manager and she said "oh, he's had his vaccines, do you not want to take him home today?"

I was so happy I burst into tears... and the next morning when I woke up and remembered I had a puppy, I ran downstairs crying.

I obviously was just as delighted with my newborns, but given the combination of my battered lady garden and my sore as fuck nipples, the joy was slightly less exuberant.

I don't know how to contain myself at the moment - it's ridiculous. I'm not sure how I'm going to cope if they say they haven't got one on Tuesday!
