Three families hiring a country cottage for a week:

Family 1: couple, no kids, 2 dogs
Family 2: couple, one baby under 6 months old
Family 3: couple, three kids (4, 2 and baby under 6 months old)

Cottage will need 4 bedrooms, one for each couple and one for the 4 and 2 year old to share. Babies will be in cots in parents rooms.

If cottage is say £3k for the week, how much should each family pay?

Pay per bedroom

RNBrie · 23/05/2017 21:29

Yes. Pay per bedroom.

Mistletoekids · 23/05/2017 21:30

Or If money not tight just pay 1/3 each

Per bedroom.

If there's an extra charge or deposit for the dogs then the dog owners pay the extra

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/05/2017 21:31

Yes per bedroom.

RocknRolla · 23/05/2017 21:31

Family 1: £750
Family 2: £750
Family 3: £1500

Icklepickle101 · 23/05/2017 21:31

No that was wrong I thought 2 family's had the extra room.

TeenAndTween · 23/05/2017 21:32

Agree, per bedroom.

If the other couples are better off than the large family they could graciously sub it a bit though.

If doing food kitty I'd probably just include the adults as a 4&2 don't eat much in comparison.

Same pay per bedroom

Whosthebestbabainalltheworld · 23/05/2017 21:32

£750, £750, £1,500

Twooter · 23/05/2017 21:32

Split three ways.

Puffpaw · 23/05/2017 21:33

Fairest is per bedroom BUT with our friends in that situation either we would split it three ways, or one couple would pay and invite the others as guests. Guests would sort shopping, dinner out etc

MarciaBlaine · 23/05/2017 21:33

Per bedroom

Mumzypopz · 23/05/2017 21:34

I don't get why the better well off family should sub the others?!

Tiptoethr0ughthetulips · 23/05/2017 21:35

£750, £750, £1500

Kokusai · 23/05/2017 21:35

Per bedroom.

UrsulaPandress · 23/05/2017 21:36

Per bedroom. Although I've been away with friend and she used two rooms and me one, and we paid half each.

She still owes me money from NewYears Eve.

TeenAndTween · 23/05/2017 21:37

Mumz no should but if they are good enough friends they could come up with a good argument to not make it quarter, quarter half. e.g. everyone also has use of the shared areas.

EweAreHere · 23/05/2017 21:37

Per bedroom, and the dog owners pay the security for the dogs.

Xmasbaby11 · 23/05/2017 21:37

Honestly I'd split it 3 ways. Babies sleep in the room but are still taking up space in the house, dogs likewise. It's not just about bedrooms.

Assuming these people are friends!

SomethingBorrowed · 23/05/2017 21:37

Family 1 and 2 should pay the same, 2 dogs vs a baby are comparable in terms of extra space, using the communal areas etc. Family 3 should pay more.
750/750/1500 seem right initially but thinking about it it means
2 adults + 2 dogs = 2 adults + a baby = 2 small DC...
IMO 2 small DC should pay less than 2 adults + dogs or baby.
So maybe 800/800/1400

JT05 · 23/05/2017 21:38

We always split per family. Food was worked out into a kitty, one amount per person, one amount per child. Alcohol was a different split, worked out by the blokes! 😬

akkakk · 23/05/2017 21:38

cost of a 4 bedroom is not always 1/3 extra over 3 bedroom, so you could work on:

cost of equivalent 3 bedroom 1/3 each
extra to have 4 bedroom - payable by family needing that room

dudsville · 23/05/2017 21:39

I know this doesn't help but if I were the couple with the two dogs I'd get my own place! That's too many people for a 4 bed place!
