To think Felix, Whiskas and other cat "food" manufacturers are taking the mick

Most commercial cat food has actually about 4% meat. This is for nearly 100% carnivores. They put soya protein shit in instead, plus carbohydrates (to make our cats fat).

Its really a scandal. And one I've only noticed because I've got a lovely little kitten I want to feed well.

Apparently this commercial cat "food" makes them hungry all the time (no real meat) so they overeat (diabetes) and it also makes their pooh pong when it doesn't need to, it makes them less energetic and their coats not so shiny!

Does anyone else wonder what planet we are on when our 100% carnivore pets are fed 4% meat by these bstd manufacturers? Its not even cheap!

@Haffiana which commercial raw food would you recommend?

Do you like, warm up the day old chicks or just defrost them?

I think Kitten would like live mice.... not sure how ethical it is buying live mice to release for him purely for the hunt!

My cats are raw fed. They were all rescue cats, and it did take a little while for them to get used to it, but they got there in the end and LOVE their raw food! To get them used to eating raw I gradually decreased the canned meat and mixed chicken mince and bits of chicken heart to make up the volume until eventually they were fully on raw meat. They have chicken (meat, heart and giblets plus chicken necks for the bones), beef (meat and heart), and kangaroo (we live in Australia). They're all healthy, and it is true that their poo doesn't smell if they are fed raw. When we go on holiday and they are in the cattery they get canned and dry food, and they stink for a few days when they come home!

We used to buy the meat from the butcher in bulk and then portion it to freeze, it's pretty easy to do. We're renovating at the moment though, and I can't be bothered don't have the time/energy/space to do it so I'm using a local company who make it and deliver it fresh every fortnight. Even doing that it works out cheaper than buying canned meat and crunch.

do you have to buy the raw meat from a special supplier? or can it be supermarket?
