Excuse me for a minute but....AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
There - I feel a bit better now!
Ok,so this is my second baby so I don't expect to be as guided through it as I was last time, but so far this has been quite a stressful pregnancy (bit of bleeding / pain etc)I was really looking forward to having a chat with her and having my mind put at rest.
She turned up 25 minutes late - no problem, then she starts moaning about how stressed she was, how she'd been stuck in traffic all morning etc - again, ok, I don't expect her to be anything less than human and we all have bad days.
But then, she spends 30 minutes filling out reams of paperwork and when she asks me for questions and I ask her them she responds with answers such as 'Oh well, don't worry' and 'It'sall in the leaflets'.
To top it all she took the hundreds of tubes of blood they seem to and did it so badly that I bled all over her, me and my sofa and today I can hardly move my arm!
Again I say ARRGGGGHHHHH, can't say I'm majorly looking forward to her 'care'!

Ok, I'm being unreasonable then!!!

Welllll.... it's not her fault she has to waste time filling in loads of paperwork and handing out stupid leaflets.

But she does sound quite crap.

bossykate · 16/03/2007 16:16

continuity of care is so bad in the nhs you probably won't see her again.

does that help

ejt1764 · 16/03/2007 16:16

No, you're not being unreasonable.

If you are seriously concerned able the level of 'care' she's offering, then I'd write to the Head of Midwifery of the trust putting your concerns in writing, and asking for competent midwifery care.

They have a duty of care to you ...

HonorMatopoeia · 16/03/2007 16:19

Phew! Thank you, I know how she feels about the paperwork - I have a job that drowns me in the stuff too! It was more the dismissive nature and the extreme blood letting. BK - you're right, I'll probably never see her again. I did note one of the leaflets was about complaints (I by no means feel it is to be taken this far - unless of course she continues to get worse!) but did think it was 'nice' to know there was an avenue of complaint if ever it ws necessary. Poor lady is probably brilliant usually and I just got her on the day from hell

Not unreasonable imo. Sounds totally unprofessional. If there's a chance of seeing her again I'd complain and change. The woman i had for my 2 booking-in appointments was exactly like this. Even warned her with second that i was on blood thinners so needed thin needle. Took no notice. Blood squirting for ages and horrendous bruise for 2 weeks. Thankfully never saw her again - 'til nr 3!

snowleopard · 16/03/2007 16:33

I had a rubbish midwife who seriously upset me with her insensitive behaviour when I was pg. I politely asked if I could avoid having her again and my wish was granted - throughout pg, birth and postnatal care she never hove into view again! So it's worth moaning about her.

HonorMatopoeia · 16/03/2007 16:39

yomel and snowleopard, thank you. I'm hoping she'll either be fine next time or that I'll see someone else! If she's awful and returns though I like your approach snowleopard!

Not unreasonable at all. Her 'off days' aren't your problem, she should wait till she gets home before having a good moan!

I never saw the same MW twice until I had already had my DS, which considering some of the strange women I saw was probably a good thing. Hopefully you will be assigned a fab MW who will stay with you until the birth and beyond.

Good luck

Elasticwoman · 17/03/2007 14:31

Were you fully aware of what all the bloods were taken for? You can refuse to give blood and if you ask her to explain exactly what it's for, that (a) slows her down and (b) gives you a chance to refuse. EG I never had the triple test when pg because I wasn't prepared to have an amnio.

No you're not being unreasonable, she didn't give you a good service, but you can do more to control the conversation and not allow her to fob you off in future. If indeed you ever see her again, as some one else has said.

Hi Hon, (That's Hon, not hun)
If your Gps is like mine, there will be 2 midwife clinics on different days, each w/a different midwife. Find out which day your old bat does and swap to the other day! Bingo, sorted!
Unless the other m/wife is as bad

YANBU, however, I had one this useless and she sent me 3 miles out of town to a fucking ASDA to get my bloods done because she couldn't be arsed. I didn't have a car and public transport in the area was nonexistent. So I didn't get them done until the next time I was hospitalised for hyperemesis. Which she was utterly dismissive of.
Wonder if it's the same woman.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 10/11/2022 15:32

ARRGH BOLLOCKS FUCKING ZOMBIE!! Fucksake.

FurryDandelionSeekingMissile · 10/11/2022 15:32

The blood alone would make me want to angle to be moved to a different practitioner. Admittedly I've never had pregnancy bloods, but through a combination of various illnesses and monitoring needs I've had dozens of people take blood samples from me — phlebotomists, nurses, doctors, students — and not once has there been blood anywhere but where it was supposed to be.
