garden lunch

I don't know if I'm being unreasonable or not. Dp and 2 year old dd decided to treat ourselves to lunch in a fancy cafe at a restaurant in the gardens of a big park. Being a week day in term time, it was very quiet. We were sitting in the outside area of the restaurant.

Just after our lunch arrived, around 30 sixth formers arrived. There were teachers with them. I assume they were on a field trip. They sat on every available table. Those who couldn't find a seat sat in the grass. They were sat actually right next to us, as close as if they were sharing our table, right at our feet.

A couple of them bought ice cream. The other 25 or so bought nothing from the restaurant. A few of them were smoking, which surprised me as that was not allowed on my school trips.

So our quiet lunch was not the quiet lunch we'd hoped for.

We were in a big garden within a huge park. They could have walked for just 2 minutes and sat on the other side of the garden, so that they weren't in the restaurant area.

Wibu to be annoyed by this?

Complain to the school if bothered.

No idea which school it was. Anyway teachers were there who obviously didn't see a problem.

Surprised the restaurant didn't tell them to move on if they weren't eating there .

Surprised if they were 6th formers as most will be doing AS and A levels at the moment. Possibly a College/uni which would also explain the approach to smoking, and also lack of monitoring by staff. If they were adults they could really do what they liked.

Navy of course I wasn't annoyed that they were enjoying the park. But I was annoyed that there were in the restaurant area and that they were literally sitting at my feet. They could have walked just 60 seconds away and sat in any other part of the garden except the restaurant.

seeline of course they could do what they like but that doesn't mean it wasn't bad manners to crowd around us.

kokusai I was surprised the restaurant didn't ask them to move either, especially as there were no outside tables left for anyone else to sit at.
