What on earth is going on with this job

For goodness sake I'm getting so annoyed.

I applied for a job (good job 40k wage) three weeks ago.

Personally recommended to the interviewer by my friend who happens to be the interviewers best friend.

So going into the interview I was really confident and nailed it. Every questions was marked out of 6 and I managed to sneak a peak at one of the interviewers marking sheet and all my answers were marked at 6. So 100%.

It was clearly a good interview and it lasted well over the allocated time and ended with them praising me and my work. However of course, someone can come along and just do that tiny bit better.

I was told I 'should hear on monday'. Monday came and went. By Thursday I sent an email to HR chasing up. No response.

I know four people who interviewed too (8 positions going). 2 were rejected on the Monday and two were told in person they had been successful as they work with one of the managers who interviewed them.

It's now been three weeks and I had accepted the fact I had been unsuccessful. No response from HR a second time.

This is a large organisation who ALWAYS let candidates know either way and have a strict online application process. The managers must send their decision to HR and the candidate will then get an email with the rejection and it is updated on their online account.

However I took no news to mean I had been unsuccessful and would be given the inevitable news. I've been unsuccessful before and got told the next day.

So I called my friend on Friday and she said she'd spoken to the interviewer/best friend and she confirmed the position I had interviewed for had yet to be given to anyone. She's no idea what is going on but her friend said she had only extended an offer to two people and that was because she worked with them in person so would see them in the office. No one has been allocated any of the other 6 positions yet but they have suitable candidates for all positions!

So my friend said just wait to see when she calls. It looks promising.

Monday and still no call. It's been 3 weeks since my interview and I'm actually last the point of caring now I'm so annoyed. AIBU to think this is ridiculous? And to expect better from what is normally an organisation and well regarded organisation?

I'm almost ready to withdraw my application because the stress of waiting to hear back is awful. My friend said for the current job she's in now she waited 6 weeks to be told she was successful after interview and she was first choice!

I've started applying for more jobs now anyway. I can't wait forever for a response.
Surely it's not difficult to sit down and decided who to give these jobs to? What on earth is taking so long?

It's for a job in health and social care.

I'm confused. Do you already work for this organisation? Your posts seem to indicate that you know a lot about their processes and they know a lot about you (praising you for your work etc) but, unless you work for them already, I'm uncertain how this can be the case.

Having worked in government roles for many years I would say they change their minds at a drop of a hat. The eight vacancies advertised may not be eight vacancies any more. They might decide to fill them internally through transfers, for example.

Looking at your score sheet at interview is never a good idea and besides that is one person's score sheet, not the whole panel's. Being 'really confident' can also come across as arrogant and can be off-putting as, ultimately, interview panels are looking for someone who can fit into their team above all else.

3 weeks is not long to wait

Some people wait 1 to 3 months to hear results

user1495366815 · 22/05/2017 22:53

I've worked for them previously but as a student.

Some people have been told which is what's hard.

My contract runs out in a months time and I will then be unemployed. Desperately searching for other jobs too but I've not other interviews yet. So the stress is understandable. Don't judge as you don't know my circumstances.

I've been unsuccessful over 15 times now this year.

I just want to know if I have this job so I can prepare for unemployment.

Of course it is stressful to need a job and be hopeful of getting one.

I would prepare for the worst but still hope for the best.

I don't think running through it in your mind and analysing it is so very helpful. All that stuff about being known to people..... it would be frowned up on by many organisations, especially any with public funding - not that it would count against you unless you were canvassing, but not necessarily go in your favour.

No news is good news. You are still technically in the game. 3 weeks is a longish time. You may hear back tomorrow.

Hedge your bets. Keep interviewing. Good luck.

I went to a five hour interview for a specific position with a local company. Went straight to second interview which involved me speaking to three managers, in the US, Germany and another area in the UK. All telephone interviews were a minimum of two hours at my expense and involved late night calls. During this time the goalposts moved and the UK position turned into an EMEA position including regular travel abroad. Only found this out on the end of the last call. I had two small kids and a husband working away all week. Three weeks after and the same online application/update system still showed nothing. Four weeks later I found out the position went after a week to a bloke less qualified than myself. I was deemed unsuitable due to my inability to be flexible regarding travel (I needed a sah partner). I was so bloody cross, I made them refund the cost of my foreign calls and fuel and expressed my disappointment in their process and blatant discrimination. Why do companies waste so much of other people's time? It is like they are doing you a favour. It does not take that long to decide who is best for a job. I tell my interviewees within two days. Grrr

Madwoman5 · 22/05/2017 23:18

Oh, need to add, this was a huge global company with a local operation.

Good luck and I hope you hear soon

user1495366815 · 22/05/2017 23:37

user1495366815 · 24/05/2017 13:17

I have to wait for the written job offer now. I presume they've checked references already.

God knows how long that will take 😂
