You still do some cleaning yourself?

Having this discussion with bf. I've recently got a cleaner who comes once a week for 3 hours (5 bed house). Not entirely sure how good a job she's doing but am going to give her another couple of weeks.

Anyway over the weekend bf saw me sweeping the kitchen floor and asked why, and doesn't the cleaner do it? His view is that cleaner should do it all once a week (except day to day washing up) because otherwise what's the point in having her?

Whereas I feel I still have to do some jobs daily/ weekly...so who is right?

Similar here Eggy; I have to be very careful to pace myself, and DD2 has fibro, so we have a routine worked out that suits everyone. Our cleaner is stupendous, she's so fast but incredibly thorough. I couldn't manage without her, or her husband who comes every other week and does the garden - just cuts the grass and weeds.

I clean for the cleanerGrin pick stuff off the floor, empty dishwasher etc but she comes 3 times a week so leave it to her. She didn't like having set hours, preferred to see 'how long it took her'; but found her doing stuff which didn't need doing and hours increasing so have asked her to stick to regular hours.. she's not impressed

Yanbu but I also wouldn't expect the house to be properly cleaned in only 3 hours and just once a week. Wouldn't it be just back in the same condition in a day or two?

When i used to do the weekly clean for the aunt with the white carpets who was never at home (hoover round, water the plants, wave the duster about and chuck the out of date caviar out of the fridge) i also used to clean for a lady down the lane who ran a riding stable ...

For her i did a twice weekly clean and each time the first thing i would do was run an actual broom across the kitchen work tops to sweep all the hay and horse muck onto the floor. You can imagine the rest. The whole house was always left as shiny and clean (and hygienic) as a new pin once again. She was always very grateful. It was always back to a shit pit 3 days later.

The second house was much harder work, but much more satisfying Grin

of course I clean in between. Are you suppose to leave puddles on the tables, drinks on the floor and bins overflowing for a week? I also tidy before the cleaner comes so that she spend more time actually cleaning.

Yes, I had a cleaner once a week and it just meant that everything was clean at one point in the week. Then I had to keep on top of it. If your OH thinks cleaning a whole house through a week only takes 3 hours, then he is a little jaded.
I now have a team blitz the house once a month for 6 hours which I think is far more productive and less intrusive. They clean light fittings, move beds and sofas etc instead of giving everything a quick once over more often , which I'm capable of doing as I go along.

We had a cleaner once a week for a short (fabulous) time when the DCs were small. My MIL was visiting when DD dropped her cereal on the floor and announced, "Oh no Mummy! When is Julie coming to clean it up?" I reassured her that in Julie's absence I could use a dust pan Grin

But seriously... of course you do bits of cleaning in between!
