To not go to soft play with my friend this afternoon?

Last week we went and all the kids had fun and we chatted etc so she said we'll have to do this every week without thinking i said yeah its been great i'd love to.

This week one of my full time mindee's has left and the lady who was going to bring her baby to me instead has pulled out so i'm left with a big gap in my finances so i'm trying not to spend any money as i'm already lots overdrawn.

Should i go because i promised and her son is looking forward to it and if i don't go shes going to have a nightmare getting home again as it's nowhere near her house and she doesnt drive and she's insisting on going anyway even though i suggested the park as its a lovely day and wont cost anything.

Should I not go because I can't afford it (tho the state my money is in another £20 won't make so much difference but every little helps)

What would you do? Am i being unreasonable?

No you're not being unreasonable if you've laready offered an alternative and she's turned it down.

Whoooosh · 16/03/2007 12:30

I think I personally would either be honest about the cash or go with "I really want to make the most of the good weather as it is due to Sunday and God knows when we will really be able to enjoy the park"

shonaspurtle · 16/03/2007 12:30

No. Don't go. You're not being unreasonable if you can't afford it, especially as you made the suggestion of an alternative.

Whoooosh · 16/03/2007 12:30

That should read snow Sunday...

tubismybub · 16/03/2007 12:33

Have you told her your reasons? They are perfectly valid and the park sounds like a much nicer way to spend the afternoon anyway. (but then I loathe soft play centres!)

tubismybub · 16/03/2007 12:33

Please tell me it isn't going to snow for real? Have i missed something there?

AngharadGoldenhand · 16/03/2007 12:34

Tell her the truth - you can't afford it this week.

You've offered a nice alternative - it's lovely out at the moment.

Tbh, it sounds like she's using you as a handy lift to and from soft play.

AngharadGoldenhand · 16/03/2007 12:34

Heavy snow tomorrow onwards, tub.

Whoooosh · 16/03/2007 12:35

'tis apparently.....rain at best, snow at worst.

LoveMyGirls · 16/03/2007 12:44

We've been friends 14 years so she's def not using me, we hardly get chance to spend time together so we're trying to make an effort, usually its her that is very busy. while i'm not busy its nice to get a chance to do something but when im not busy it means im not getting paid so doing expensive things when i have time is not good.....

Hummmm i don't want to let her down for the sake of £20, maybe if i go today then say from now on if we meet up its got to not be expensive for a while.

Plus i've got 3 A4 posters up in my car advertising childcare so i may get business and make that money back.

Btw i did say i couldn't afford it but she said she still had to go because she promised her 3 yr old and he's really excited.

OP posts:
AngharadGoldenhand · 16/03/2007 12:46

But she could still go by herself, couldn't she?

LoveMyGirls · 16/03/2007 12:47

Yeah but the whole point was for us to spend time together plus its over my side of town and i was driving.

I think i'll still go - just this once but tell her i can't do it again for ages.

Housemum · 16/03/2007 12:48

Is there a good park near you? My 3-year-old has got excited about going to soft play with a friend, then have suggested an alternative (as I just hate those places as they give me a headache even midweek!) and the kids have been equally happy as they want to just run around together. Is it not perhaps that the mum would rather have a coffee than have to sit in a park?!

tubismybub · 16/03/2007 12:48

oh pants

She doesn't seem to give a shit that you can't afford it. That's not a good friend.

Does she offer petrol money?

DannyGary · 10/11/2022 15:41

@HuggsBosom

This is a zombie thread from 2007.

The bloody troll is back resurrecting numerous 2007 threads again

I expect it's all sorted now.

HuggsBosom · 10/11/2022 15:45

@DannyGary argh, how did i miss that. That's 20 seconds I'll never get back! Child must be an adult now.

DannyGary · 10/11/2022 15:58

It's probably the same person who got banned yesterday.
Lots of 2007 threads in "active" at the moment.
Grrrrrrrrrrr.
