To not have the kids up and out first thing?

Dh and I work FT (mon to fri) dcs are 2 and 5. If we have a weekend of no plans we each take a lie in. We live in a smallish flat with a yard.

This weekend dh got the kids up and out early, took them swimming and out for lunch. He doesnt have to take them out for me - we have lots of packets of earplugs and we have kids so I dont expect silence.

This morning Im up with the kids and weve stayed in. So far they have played out on their scooters in the yard, coloured in for a bit, and now we have the train track out in the living room.

Part of me feels guilty that weve not given him a quiet house as he did yesterday. However the kids are barely here as we work all week, and we are all out this afternoon together.

I know he wont have used the earplugs, yet will do that twisty face thing when I ask if he enjoyed his lie in.

I should add, he takes the kids out because he finds them easier out and about, rather than to ensure I have a quiet house for my lie in.

No he fully admits that he takes them out because they are easier to entertain out and about. But that is because he tries to keep them quiet in the house "for me" which Ive said he doesnt need to. The earplugs are very effective.

I mean, I dont let the kids race round, or play musical instruments etc but they are allowed to go from room to room and play with their toys/watch cartoons etc.

Let him do a twisty face and tell him to use the earplugs.

It would be nice if every now and then he got the nice quiet house though. There's nothing more soothing and mind emptying than the house to yourself if you don't get it often IMO.

I do sometimes get them up and out if the weather is nice, or ive something in mind for them. We definetly go out more than we stay in. But I dont always want to feel obliged to.

It would be nice to take them out for a couple of hours. Empty house is very lovely.
