To be increasingly repulsed by newsreaders emoting to camera until it's their turn?

You know what I mean. When their copresenter is talking they nod meaningfully and emote vile sympathy, humour, knowledge, understanding, compassion with gurning and raising comedy eyebrows and looking like they're going to run at the camera and start licking the lense.
Sometimes the women positively writhe around on the nasty sofas? Why won't they stop.

The worst is if it's a serious story and they look like they might burst into tears.
sigh
I can't bear it.

PMSL. God yes! Isn't it infuriating. They never usedc to do that did they?

suedonim · 17/03/2007 21:58

And what's with the two presenters reading alternative sentences of a story? It's like watching a ruddy tennis match - back forth back forth back forth until I've got a stiff neck.

Also, the factory which makes those ghastly suits the women wear, the ones that have the edges outlined in a contrasting colour, ought to be obliterated. I have never seen anyone in the street wearing such a get-up!

Greensleeves · 18/03/2007 09:52

LOL suedonim, that alternating sentences thing is SO cringeworthy, it's like some ghastly GCSE Media Studies role-playing exercise.[recoil]

Can't bear to watch TV news - I listen to the radio. BUt my favourite TV sport is shouting at Kate Thornton's clothes on X factor (or indeed on Comic Relief):

"WHAT is she wearing? Did she KNOW she was going to be on the telly?"

My husband is gutted that she's off the X factor as that was his favourite bit of the show (and mine in last series).

I feel so much better at the company of others as irritated as I am by these things!

Greensleeves! I've been around mumsnet off and on since 2001 with various names. I get so addicted though that I am either on it far too much or wean myself off and then don't mumsnet at all for months! I was once queenceleste and have forgotten other suedonims.

Comic Relief:
specialmlady - what do you think of all the presenters crying this time (ant and dec in africa) I"m sure the emotions are real but still, the whole crying in front of the camera thing. Davina was at it too.... sigh Any views?

Also Comic Relief:
Ferne Cotton - love her - I thinks she's good - she doesn't GURN quite as much as the others (principally Davina who is a very rictus of GURN) but what was it about Ferne's dress this time - I thought it made her look 11 and consequently not suitable for family viewing. Maybe I'm alone in this!

Ahh who will be cuddling on the sofa tomorrow?

Lol Greensleeves. Luckily, Meeja Studies hadn't been invented when I were a lass!

I don't mind the woman on bbc breakfast this morning - she is quite natural and human and doesn't always emote in a way that makes me projectile vomit.
But Bill......... with the tube of his earpiece showing...... He does look like a droid/Thunderbird. What is he exactly.
And also fewer and fewer news men are going grey - have you noticed? They're all painted up to the lugoles.

Ipanemagirl, I used to have a variation of that name! I was also on here a lot when my kids were little. It's a great name.

Bill Turnbull? He passed away last year, of cancer.
