Looking out of the window.

Im I being unreasonable to think it is not being nosy and it's my window and I can look out if I wish.

A neighbour asked me what I was looking at yesterday when she pulled up in her car. I said nothing just looking out of the window. Neighbour said laughing oh you will get known as the nosy neighbour! I thought it a bit strange!
If you saw someone looking out of their window do you instantly think nosy! I don't but now am wondering if I am wrong

Well...are you standing at the window just looking out?

I think that's odd unless your view is incredible.

Or are you sitting near the window and occasionally glancing?

Mothervulva · 20/05/2017 11:37

Your window, look out of it.

PeppaIsMyHero · 20/05/2017 11:39

Totally fine.

Bluebubble123 · 20/05/2017 11:42

It's not like I am stood there looking out all the time. I had just closed my window over as it had started raining and I stood there for maybe 20 / 30 seconds looking up the street.

Your street is a public place so surely you can stand there all day if you wish?!

Ginkypig · 20/05/2017 11:47

If Someone sees me looking out my window I automatically think They will think I'm a nosey curtain twitcher Blush

Really I think it depends, Iv had neighbour/s when I was much younger who I'm pretty sure we're either being sleazy (man upstairs across the road looking into my flat from their window) or nosey but Iv also had neighbours who I could tell after a few times they just liked watching the world go by.

My opinion is its your window and your view, enjoy it and stuff what anyone thinks Grin

pipsqueak25 · 20/05/2017 12:05

she can mind her own business for a start it's your window to look out of unless you're looking through binos Grin, you might even be witness to a potential crime, my dd has and was able to assit the police after an assault in our street.

Your neighbour was laughing when she said it, so I think it was just jokey/friendly banter. I wouldn't give it a moment's thought.

In theory you should be able to look out your window whenever you wish.
When I open my curtains in the morning I sometimes have a quick glance both ways, to see what's going on maybe isn't the right term, but just you know, seeing if anyone's about. I can't explain it very well.
I'm certainly not staring or looking at anyone at all, merely having a casual look out.
Though I remember once a few months back, I was cleaning the inside of my windows, and I'd taken down the nets. I was cleaning the ones in my living room, and I'd taken a few steps back to see if there was any smears still on the glass. A lady who lives opposite came home as I was doing so, and assumed I was looking at her/ watching her for some reason.
I know this because I saw her going out as I was coming home a few days later, and she said, I thought you were watching me or my house. But then I saw you were holding glass cleaner and were just cleaning your windows, I'm sorry about that. I assured her that I have no interest at all in watching or staring at her or her house, and that all I was doing was looking for smears on the glass. Very odd.

That is just the sort of flippant remark I might make, but I wouldn't mean anything by it. As the neighbour was laughing she sounds as though she was just being friendly.
(I have been trying to overcome this for years!)

Stand at the window with a notepad.
Every time she looks your way frown and scribble furiously in the notepad.
Then 'notice' she has seen you and duck down.
If she mentions it just looked confused and deny it.

ShotsFired · 20/05/2017 15:39

I do it quite a lot and let various thoughts float through my head. It's like the familiarity of the scene lets my brain relax or something! But like mindful meditation I guess.

And yeah, my window, I'll look out of it if I want to!

Shockers · 20/05/2017 15:42

I sit and look out of my window for hours! Luckily we don't overlook any other houses, just hills and fields.

I'm usually watching birds playing in the garden.

SylvesterMcM0nkeyMcBean · 20/05/2017 15:48

Look out if you want to, if you're caught peeping you should maintain the peep as per Micky Flanagan Grin

Maudlinmaud · 20/05/2017 15:50

I dare you to get binoculars and a notebook and pen to wear around your neck. Give them something to talk about.

Ginkypig · 20/05/2017 16:51

Haha! That's what I was thinking sylvester!

Bluebubble123 · 20/05/2017 19:34

It was just one of those laughs when you know the person isn't really joking.

But surely windows are for letting light in and looking out of.

I would never give it a second thought if I saw someone looking out of their window. Definitely wouldn't think they were nosy unless they had binoculars and a note pad Grin
