Fracking has been going on here for over 30 years, so far so good as far as earthquakes. Some counties have outlawed it and others are trying to, but oil is a big part of CA economy. The problem is that there are new fracking techniques that are more ecologically destructive. TBH, I'm not sure if the new techniques are being used here or not.
I've actually been through three major earthquakes; Sylmar, No Palm Springs and Whittier Narrows plus many minor 'was that an earthquakes?' before I moved to No Cal. They're scary, but it's just part of living in California. Most of us don't even think about it as they're random and unpredictable. It's not like tornados or hurricanes. Earthquakes 'may' happen, tornados and hurricanes DO happen every year.
