He does. But.

"Pence thrives in a vacuum of inattention......."

He wouldn't get that as President. 2018 is still critical.

lionheart · 20/05/2017 21:06

Yes, agreed cozie. I'd also always be cautious of anyone for whom significant 'news; is preceded by a 'trailer'.

It's really odd, especially when the stakes are so high.

I don't think that they thought they'd actually do it. (Remember how close run it was in the end.) I reckon they hoped to have an embattled Clinton in power with an enraged Trump roaring around the country and - with luck - a Republican Congress. That would have been extremely destabilising as it was. But Trump won the electoral college after all.

Alt right press in Britain is on the turn against Trump:

Yes - after a fashion.

What would happen if Trump pardoned himself? @ProfBrianKalt has spent years thinking it through

Can Trump Pardon Himself?
If the current president has proved anything, it’s that there’s a first time for everything

I have been writing about presidential self-pardons for years. My position has always been that they would be legally invalid. I have also believed that a self-pardon is unlikely to ever happen because there are too many incentives weighing against it. But I am not sure that applies to Trump, who has proved he has a high tolerance for personal risk and a taste for attempting the never-before attempted.

If you think the Trump situation is crackers and crazy now, just wait until we hit this. Its going to happen isn't it?!

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 21:44

He can't do it.

CaveMum · 20/05/2017 21:44

Prepare to cringe - dude has got no rhythm at all

I cannot watch that CaveMum because if I did, it would just be added to the very long list of things I cannot unsee. Smile

No beavers in this neck of the woods. But just like the White House there are plenty of nuts and lots of squirrels.

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 22:11

Squirrels? Don't tell me you watched that John Oliver piece? Wink

saffronwblue · 20/05/2017 22:24

Yep, can't be unseen.
Do none of Trump supporters associate Saudi with 9/11? Or do they still think it was Saddam Hussein?

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 22:40

It's difficult to guess. They likely don't know much about the reality of anything, I think.

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 22:50

And I'm very sorry, Across. I was reading last night about Santa Barbara and in particular about offshore fracking. (And the new perils which this administration will bring as well as the old perils.) I shall not dwell on it, but I know it's close to your neck of the woods.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 20/05/2017 22:57

Fracking in California? Near the San Andreas fault? What could possibly go wrong?

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 23:13

Don't get me started. (That's a whole other thread......) Grin

ITs not like the whole area isn't due another huge quake.

Oh, wait.....

Thank Goodness he'll phrase things carefully if that is indeed to be the case.

I'm going to have to read the second piece again. It's complicated.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 21/05/2017 00:09

Well, that took a different turn to what I'd expected. BBC news covering the Trump/Saudi visit: ..."and that allowed the President to talk about something close to his heart.." I immediately thought "himself", but - no - "jobs"! It then played part of his speech where he did the classic "jobs, jobs, jobs" 3x repetition. Those kind of 3 part lists are ideally suited to Trump's tiny mind.

cozietoesie · 21/05/2017 00:25

I'll have to read it a third time - with a fresh mind, hopefully. It really is complex.

lionheart · 21/05/2017 00:52

This is simpler:

Yes. It was courageous.
