Do men have a problem with women out jogging???

Hi all
I'm quite new to running and really enjoying it apart from the unwanted attention and comments I get from men ( never women) either from cars or on the street. Some are pretty harmless like " have you missed your bus?" Or " is someone chasing you?" They don't bother me that much but why comment at all? But this morning, i was getting a bit tired so slowed down, almost walking when I passed a parked van with 2 men inside, driver leant out of window and said " what's the matter, your snatch too sweaty?!" Just ignored him and carried on but is this a thing? Have any other women encountered this out running? I don't get this ever if I'm just out walking, only if I'm running . And just to be clear, I don't get all this attention because I'm a supermodel type, far from it- very average and nothing special so I just don't get it.

I've been running for years and I can't think I've ever heard any mean comments from anyone and I don't wear headphones. I'm normal looking and wear normal running gear. 🤷🏼‍♀️
DDs both experienced obnoxious comments from builders whilst walking to school in their school uniforms so It's not like I live somewhere where all the men are decent.

Every single time I get a comment while I'm running, my first thought is 'well at least I'm going faster than you, sitting down in your van you lazy, arsehole bastard.'

Don't let these pricks put you off ladies. Any comments that cross the line into abuse, any men trying to physically stop you, should be reported to the police. Not so cocky with the old bill knocking at our door, are we fellas?

Get a large group together online, then all wear a jogger/runnercam and start a youtube channel for all the idiotic behaviour you all have to put up with.

someother do you wind the car windows down and encourage your family to shout at any other people whilst you're driving around? Horseriders, boys on skateboards, cyclists ?

And people I said the wondows were UP , they don't hear us ... it's just a thing we've done since I was a child

Wow I'm shocked at how common this is. It must be area dependent - in years of running on streets I've never had more than "Good morning".

Someotherfuckers your original post actually said "windows down ofc" - that's why people are giving you a hard time

SomeOther Confused someone else upthread quoted you

"Although me and my whole family, whenever we see a runner, always yell ' keeep on running !' - with the windows down ofc ... I don't know why "

Horse riders get this too, people think it's hilarious to shout or scream out of their window to frighten a horse. Don't know how funny they'd find it when half a ton of horse crashes through their windscreen...

SomeOtherFuckers 'And people I said the wondows were UP , they don't hear us ... it's just a thing we've done since I was a child'. No, that's not what you said at all. You actually said 'Although me and my whole family, whenever we see a runner, always yell ' keeep on running !' - with the windows down ofc'. I've had that done to me. I'm in extremely bad health right now. Getting myself out for a run requires tremendous effort. To be yelled at by a family driving by, who thought that they were oh so funny, might be enough to prevent me from doing it again. But as long as you and your whole family get a good laugh, eh?

In always wonder how these men would feel if the woman they were shouting at was their own partner, sister, mother or daughter......

Now I really do sound like my family are fuckers .. sorry people, I would never yell at people with the windows down , now I'm embarrassed BlushBlushBlush

I'm very jumpy and would not appreciate someone shouting at me, however encouraging or complimentary it was.

BoldKitties · 18/05/2017 05:07

Sure, SomeOtherFuckers. And why exactly do you yell that 'in a motivational way' if it's through closed windows so the person you are yelling it at can't hear you?

I often wonder about these men too- do they go home to their partners and say "guess what? Today I felt the need to question the cleanliness of a runners nether regions" or any of the other delights that have been said to other women! I'm sad about the amount of people who have said it has put them off and while I fully understand (that would have been me a few years ago) but have a bit more confidence now, don't let these arseholes win. I'm shocked at how prevalent this actually is and thought I'd just been unlucky and when I originally posted this, did not expect the response. Like I said, this has never happened when I've just been out walking, only running. Agree about the online group and runner cam- brilliant idea and then shame the bastards on you tube!

I've noticed that when I run in the early morning the women are running in groups or twos and the men get to run alone. Lucky them. It's this kind of bullshit that means women feel they need to herd for safety.

Air horn? That might learn them.

This is why i run in the dark /early morning or in the woods where i don't see anyone. Fucking idiots.

I have also been a regular runner for around 12 years now and i have NEVER experienced any form of harassment in all of that time. Not saying I do not believe you OP and I would not like it either but try not to let it put you off. Yes to head phones (maybe thats why I have never heard anything). Keep going you are doing great..

I ran for a few months before I got pregnant and in that short space of time I got loads of stupid comments from men. I just always want to shout "OH MY GOD YOU ARE SO BORING" cos it really is sooooo boring and predictable. Why?? Whyyyyy?

Been shouted at too, it's really offputting - even the "motivational" comments but noticed it happens a lot less when I run with my dog, he's a Labrador and friendly but is large and I guess distracts people from looking at my wobbly bits. Plus I feel a lot safer with him there. It's sad that women have to put up with this.

Oh it's horrible, and happens far too regularly. I write a blog and did some 'research' on this, it's about 1 in every 4 runs that I get shouted out in some way. Usually from cars but sometimes just randomers in the street. Totally unacceptable, but really widespread in my experience.
Comments are usually a variation of the oh so original 'run fatty run' and always have been. I've been a runner for years and have been a huge spectrum of sizes over that time so I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with how I look and all to do with their dickheadedness.

I've never had any comments but I run before breakfast so usually only see other runners, dog walkers etc. Occasionally on Sunday mornings I see a group of students wandering home from a nightclub as I run past the halls of residence but they never comment.
