To leave my job

I've been in the same job around 13 years, and over the years I've had various mental health issues which I think have been caused by stress and anxiety at work.

I've now got to a stage where I feel sick and panicky every day before work.

Having discussed this with my husband we were thinking of me giving up my fairly well paid job and finding a low paid job in the evenings (this would give me the daytime to spend with my son)

What I'm concerned about is if we will be ok for money. After all bills are paid we'll bhave left with £700 a month to pay for food and everything else. In the house we have dh and I, ds(20 months) and a dog.

Has anyone else did anything similar? Do you think I'm being unreasonable giving up a fairly well paid job? Is £700 a month doable?

£700 a month is not poverty!

OP said she'll have paid all her bills and will have £700 leftover - that's plenty!

MN really does seem like an alternate universe when it comes to money sometimes...

My Dh has done this and, honestly, what I'd wished he'd done was stayed in the high pressure job with the money. Got help with his stress and got more support in the job so we had money for holidays and stuff. Now we don't and that's more stressful and depressing and I'm really feeling the strain of being the main breadwinner.

Or he'd looked for a new job with a better employer while still in work. He also really underestimated how much he'd hate having a job being given orders...

We had a few years on about this when I wAs a SAHM. It was ok if nothing cropped up but i got so fed up of having to say 'no' to everything the kids asked for and not being able to get treats . Things like 'back to school' shopping or new shoes would leave us totally skint for the month and extra activities were a real luxury. And if you have something go wrong with the car or house it's a mega stress. I used to work 3 or 4 evenings in a pub and would make about £450 a month by the way and quite enjoyed it though was ready for something else after a year.

I've just handed my notice in as the company I work for is shit, and badly paid. Yes, I've had s bout of anxiety and stress last year due to it, and now have anxiety going to work as I hate it.

We'll be minus my wage which is not a major loss. I took home £1k a month, half I was saving for a new car (can wait as there's nothing wrong with my current one) some small bills and spending money.
Dh had had a promotion and a pay rise, which far out strips my earning. I had my work pulled apart, and made to feel like shit. So I handed in my notice, which I was going to do last year due to the stress.

Anyway, we've decided to use my savings for now, until I find something else, and any bills I paid, he'd take over.

I'm gonna enjoy the bank holiday week as it's half term and I'll have dd's Smile

Is 700£ after bills really considered poverty? I was thinking it would be tight, but other people must manage on that??? We do have savings for emergencies which we can dip into if desperate. My son isn't at an age yet to be asking for much but when he's older I'm sure that'll change...

We have around £900 disposable income but have 3dcs. We do lots of activities, cinema, theatre, day trips etc, regularly eat out and still manage to save most months
If anything drastic happens to house or car it comes out of our savings. I have friends on considerably higher incomes than us but who have less disposable income due to higher outgoings. Op I really think you will be fine!
