to worry over what this radiographer said?

I'm very much hoping you all say AIBU!

I'm 2 years post cancer and had a check up scan this morning. Normally the radiographers do a 'all done, off you go' type communication when finished.

Today I got - 'it'll be 5 days before the images are read. Have you got an appointment with your doctor lined up? Good, that's in the system then. Are you feeling ok? (As I was climbing off the machine)

All perfectly innocent but when you've been through the head fuck of cancer, all rational thought goes out the window......

Radiographer here...don't worry. The images are not interpreted by us...they are interpreted by a radiologist (MD) who may have a lot of images to report and it takes time. Try not to worry...its pretty standard.

malificent7 · 21/01/2022 06:09

Well i am newly qualified so don't report....not to say other radiographers don't. I do rather feel that this thread has gone off on a tangent with a lot of insulted radiographers!

needmoreshinys · 21/01/2022 06:10

I always find it interesting that people commented on these based on the OP thinking what i have to say is so important that no one in 2-3 pages has said it, and I know they think this, because they haven't read the previous few messages which say

THIS IS A FUCKING ZOMBIE THREAD

@Gerry1234

Get a life
Maybe you need to get a life. Why look for and respond in such great detail to a post that is over 4 years old?
EishetChayil · 21/01/2022 06:20

@Gerry1234, you need to work on your bedside manner, my love. I hope you don't come across as so patronising and abrasive to the people in your care.

megletthesecond · 21/01/2022 06:29

Gerry, dragging up an old thread is pointless. The original post is almost 5 years old.

Surely you have an eye for detail?

malificent7 · 21/01/2022 06:43

Lol! Grin

With Covid, everything I taking longer. Pre Covid, it may have taken 2 or 3 days for someone to read it, now it's 5 and they just want to make sure you know this is now normal and not because something is wrong Flowers

It’s a ZOMBIE THREAD from 2017!
Bluebellbike · 21/01/2022 08:03

This thread was also resurrected in 2021. You would think it could be left to RIP now?

TyrannosaurusRegina · 21/01/2022 08:07

@Chickoletta

Radiographers just take the images - they're not trained to read them at all so I'd be very surprised if she could tell you anything even if she wanted to. My SIL has just qualified as a consultant radiologist and the whole process has taken her an extra 8 years after leaving medical school.

Really don't worry.

While their training may not cover extensive interpretation, through vast experience they can interpret them in fact they pretty much always know exactly what is in front of them. However it isn't their job to give a patient a diagnosis, therefore they must pass them on to the radiologist to deal with. It's like a nurse will often know what's going on by looking at blood results for example however won't give any kind of diagnosis, as that's the doctors remit.

That aside OP,, it doesn't sound like she was prepping you for any news, good or bad, she was simply ensuing that you were ok after the scan and making sure you knew of the follow up arrangements. Good luck with it all.

@AlternativePerspective

Ffs how do people happen upon these threads? It was posted in 2017. I really wish HQ would stop commenting on zombie threads.
Mumsnet threads are in search results for a lot of things. People probably type something random into Google and come across old threads that way.
Riverlee · 21/01/2022 08:17

I would assume the worse also! Hope everything turns out ok.

whatsupluckyducky · 21/01/2022 08:31

sounds like a routine comment. Can understand your concerns but I think it was just a routine comment x

AlternativePerspective · 21/01/2022 08:45

Mumsnet threads are in search results for a lot of things. People probably type something random into Google and come across old threads that way. and people don’t have the ability to read a date? Really?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 21/01/2022 08:49

don't think this hospital was affected but could be

Every layer of healthcare has been affected. I'm sure all will be fine. It took me almost two months to get the results on an MRI scan recently.

Best wishes.

Plantagenous · 21/01/2022 08:57

I had this with a kidney scan recently. She had a poker face and was most peculiar. She said something similar. I spent the next 5 days crapping myself to be told the results were normal.

If they said they are not qualified to interpret. That is the job of the radiologist and they don't know shit from clay it would really help.

Saying stuff that could even be slightly interpreted as ominous is a crappy thing to do.
