But I had a very interesting email conversation about the freedom of speech in AIBU.

In their own words mumsnet want to:

See I take that to mean that you can no longer voice your opinion about what has been posted, if someone is being unreasonable you have to be nice and funny.

Are we no longer allowed to have a robust debate, no more straight talking.

Mumsnet is edging more and more into netmums territory. Its sad and you have lost a member. This site is now full of huns who cant bare to be told that they're wrong. There seems to be more sheltered people who cant believe that anyone swears.

I started a thread to discuss the regulation of on line pharmacies on AIBU, intending that there be debate on a relaxed regime for commonly prescribed drugs to take pressure off GPs. Instead of that a bunch of vultures descended to portray me as the devil incarnate because of some minor observations on medicines I and my family had bought this way. A couple of weeks later someone made a near identical point on General Health and was being soundly supported. AIBU is just a hang out for vicious toady types these days, I now avoid it as being nearly as hostile as the feminist section.

But I'm flummoxed that someone found the feminist section horrible, it's nice there.

Everyone is entitled to state their opinion. No one is entitled to be abusive. That's the difference.

I consider myself fairly direct and straight talking and I've managed to post on MN for many years without ever having had a post deleted for breaking talk guidelines let alone receiving emails from MNHQ.

It's entirely possible to plainly make your point without being nasty or making a personal attack.

You might want to rethink what you consider "straight talking". If it's not acceptable on MN it's probably not acceptable in RL either.

Perhaps a break from MN might be useful.
