Would I be mad to go to body combat class?

I am 5 stone overweight and very, very unfit.

My friend (same boat) has just joined the gym and suggested we go to body combat.

Would I be mad?!

Bodypump is great - I did it when I was pregnant
but Combat is different
have a go at all of them and mix and match

Balance is fab for core, toning and stretching
Pump is toning and strength
Combat is cardio and core and aerobic
Attack is cardio and aerobic

THe cool thing with Les Mills is that the choreography is just spot on and there are options for all levels
go for it

Absolutely do it. You will probably find it quite addictive. You can go at your own level and up your efforts as you gain experience, confidence and fitness. Enjoy!

Wolfiefan · 14/05/2017 20:25

DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!
I am overweight. I suffer with back and knees and hips. A decent instructor will tell you how to keep it lower impact. (So they jump kick and I step kick)
I find it gives me a real buzz and really does make a difference to your body (well it would if I could lay off the chocolate!)

You can also subscribe online if you want to try it at home first. I work full time and find it hard to fit organised classes in, so it suits me. You get all the range of classes and it's only a tenner a month.

MaximumVolume · 14/05/2017 20:27

It's fine. Just go at your own pace: skip every other kick/punch if you need to rest.

It's way more fun than gym machines so likely to keep you going with your fitness.

JustRosieHere · 14/05/2017 20:31

I'd say go for it! I go to body combat and there are all shapes and sizes there including pregnant women. Just go at your pace.

Sussex1983 · 14/05/2017 20:49

Do it!
Will probably take you a few classes to feel comfortable with the moves, but once you reach that point you'll be addicted to the 'buzz' you get from it.
Also like pump & attack, but I think body attack is better once your fitness levels are up a bit (you'll get more from it).
Good luck !

Do it!! I love Body Combat!

CaulkheadNorth · 14/05/2017 20:55

If possible, do a class during the working day, rather than evening or weekend.

At the last few gyms I've been at, the classes are more hardcore in evening/weekend.

PerpendicularVincent · 14/05/2017 21:07

Do it; I'm more overweight than you and I love body combat and bootcamp. Just take things at your own pace.

Within a couple of months I went from thinking I might die 10 minutes in, to going for a workout after the class.

Mooey89 · 16/05/2017 14:50

Well, it's booked and we're going tonight!

Excellent! I have bootcamp tonight Grin

Wolfiefan · 16/05/2017 18:31

Enjoy. I went Monday morning and wondered what you had decided. I'm trying a new class tomorrow. Could be interesting!

WonderLime · 16/05/2017 18:34

It's really fun and you can go at your own pace. Pre-pregnancy, I was the energetic one at the front.

I'm going to return post-pregnancy and I'm already terrified about how much heavier and how unfit I will be - however I remember that several members in the class would modify and take the jumps out. I'm going to do the same and hopefully make my way back to the front over time. Smile

NetflixandBill · 16/05/2017 18:49

BodyCombat is really fun. The jumping about can be hard on the knees but just step if you prefer. Bodycombat is good in that you can do the first few classes with v low weights until you feel confident to start pushing yourself, but you still get a good workout.

Highly recommend
