When dd wanted to shave her legs, we had a chat about it. About why she wanted to, about gender sterotypes etc. I explained that i shaved because i dont like how it feels, but also go through periods where i cant be arsed and dont mind having hairy pits or legs on show.

I encouraged her to make a decision for herself. She waited a bit and now at 13 sometimes shaves sometimes doesnt.

Please dont get them waxed. Mum did that to me and it was awful. I wouldnt get waxes even now.

And also loads of men shave their whole bodies now. I work in the fitness industry and most men shave all their body hair. I also currently am employed in a normal office (not fitness industry) where alot of the men shave all their hair. It generally tends to be those into fitness and many do necause their gym buddies do so they think they should.

Men in fitness started shaving so you could see their muscle definition better. So more men feel they need to, to compare to their mates. The pressure isnt as much as it is on women. But it is there.

Seriously? Confused

Is she very dark haired? I've got a nearly 11 yesr old and it just wouldn't enter her head.

Thanks all. Good advice LedaP. I am going with an honest conversation and an electric razor. I will make it her choice but help her to understand that it is her decision.

I wouldn't let her shave but only because the bathroom would look like the Texas chainsaw massacre.

I'd get sensitive veet?

My DD started shaving her legs at 8. Nobody had teased her about it, she just hated them and they were dark and thick. It's only hair at the end of the day and she was much happier once they'd been done. The hairs aren't as thick or dark as they were before shaving oddly and she doesn't do them that often

It's rubbish to try to pretend that men and women are under the same pressures on this - and I am a really mystified why you want to.

Have 3 dc all equally hairy, guess which one dislikes her leg hair age 8- dd.

I am hoping she'll go one more summer without feeling she has to, next year, if she wants, I'll get her an electric razor.

My ds's feel no need to remove the hair on the legs.

The pressure is not even comparable.

OhDearToby · 14/05/2017 09:41

My dd is 7 and very hairy, also the hair is very dark. She hasn't noticed yet but I'm preparing myself for when she does.

I've already decided I'm going to let her remove the hair when she wants to, I was the same as a child and very self conscious about it but also afraid to approach my parents because of their strangely strict hippyish ideals. I ended up doing it at about 13 using a razor I bought myself.

Fwiw I am now 30 and don't touch any of my body hair, I stopped when I was in my mid 20's. As an adult I have the confidence and to be honest the laziness for it not to bother me but I wouldn't expect that of a young girl who is being teased.

I recommend a product calle

littlenicky61 · 14/05/2017 09:52

Sorry pressed too soon. I recommend a product called Smooth Again. Its like a fine sandpaper kind of thing . You move it in circles clockwise then anti clockwise and it buffs the hair off. Works great in legs and arms and leaves skin really soft.

And it is pain free
