Hiding in my own home Grin crazy!
What do you think of religious people who come to your door? Do you answer it or ignore? If you answer what do you say?!?!?!

Had a fair few doors slammed in my face growing up LDS, also been threatened & have seen Elders being attacked.

Cant speak for other religions, but every missionary I have even know has always thanked people for their time & left if the person wasn't interested.

For those who don't understand why some people go beyond a polite dismissal, it's because while most of the door knockers understand and accept the dismissal, there are a number who don't.

I've had the odd one or two who try to shove a foot in the door (JW), the last one being a big aggressive bloke whereas I'm a short polite female.

I'll be polite as long as they are. Once the boundary is crossed (like shoving a foot in the door), I reserve the right to be rude or whatever it takes to get my door closed and them away from it.

I've had 3 knock at my door together on a miserable rainy day. One was an elderly lady, a woman in her mid thirties and a 4 year old girl. I felt so bad for the little girl standing out there I feel as though have to answer. Elderly woman and younger woman were mother and daughter and quite proud to be out on their mission. I did tell the ladies that I wasn't interested but couldn't help but feel for the kids that get dragged around in this. The little one looked so bored and tired. Sad

If anyone knocks on your door and shoves their foot to stop you from closing the door, then you should escalate and contact their company or church or whatever organisation. I doubt that any church organisation JW or other would encourage this behaviour. It is ridiculous and counterproductive.

I would be alarmed if someone did that.

FloweringDeranger · 16/05/2017 10:26

But they do encourage that kind of behaviour, it's what they're known for. They might not stick their foot in your door but they are extremely pushy and manipulative with it. Modern marketing has clearly learned a lot from them. It's like having all the worst adverts - like that recent McDonald's one - you've ever heard of standing on your front door.

Once when I was younger and had more energy and time I discussed the history and symbolism of ancient (pre-christian) near eastern religions at them. The last was a leaflet with 'health, prosperity and peace' or something shoved in my face - I told them not at the cost of all rationality thanks.

Apart from the one who told my mother she could repent her decision to allow me to have a lifesaving blood transfusion at birth, I've always found they simply go away when you say you aren't interested.

Misstic · 16/05/2017 19:22

Flowering, I think that's in your mind. I've never seen these people behave this way or heard that they are encouraged to behave like that.

Most people on here have similar experiences to mine, they go away when asked.

When my DD was around 17, she went through a ' goth ' stage and had a goth BF. One afternoon, all done up in goth gear with lots of dark make up and black lippy, hair looking like she had been sleeping with her fingers in the plug socket all night, she was just about to leave the house with her BF who looked just as bad.
Just as she was about to open the door, a pair of JWs knocked on it.
My daughter opened the door for two shocked and stammering JWs who looked like they were going to have a heart attack before fleeing back up the path.

Fortunately my daughter grew up and out of that phase.

My Uncle used to say "I'm a Methodist, and I don't have time to convert you today. goodbye!"
