Please help me understand Tory way of life , lib dem values ...

I have a neighbour....we live in a safe conservative seat, her house is worth £700k
Her husband owns a portfolio of properties and rents them out to mostly Europeans and I know he doesn't fully disclose his earnings.
He managed to buy the properties through inheritance
Her two dc both attend grammar schools which they were tutored to get into as she didn't want them to go to the local (excellent) comp

They are rich successful people due to the property boom - but are staunch lib Dems / socialists and I don't understand how such a capitalist couple can vote so far the other way

Look at the politicians in each party .... can you honestly say they 100% represent the values and aims of their chosen parties?

Why should their voters differ. It's a bloody big game with no conscience.

Being well off and supporting lib dems is not mutually exclusive. As far as I understand it lib dems support capitalism and free trade.

A lot of the middle class are libdem supporters. A central-ish party.

I thought I would be voting for them in the next election (university educated, own business, biggish house, three privately educated dc blah blah) but it has come early and as I support Brexit I won't vote for them this time.

I know he doesn't fully disclose his earnings. It amazes me that some people on here know so much about their neighbours' financial affairs.
I say 'hello' to immediate neighbours and that's about it.

Even my mother doesn't know the kind of things about my finances that NDNs appear to know on MN.

Parties have policies on lots of diffetent things. There is no reason why people should be expected for a particular party purely on the basis of how wealthy they are. Presumably quite a few MPs are pretty well-off and they are not all tories. I don't see any reason at all why people shouldn't live as comfortably as they can in the existing system (since you have no choice but to be in the existing system) while voting for a fairer one which might benefit you less but be better for all.

Would you prefer that all people above a certain income should be obliged to vote Tory? Or do you perhaps think that in order to be allowed to vote Lib Dem or Labour, you should give away most of your hard-earned cash so that you can qualify as a proper authentic non-rich person?

LibDem is not socialist.

ive noticed on mn that a lot of people equate socialism with being a liberal, but I don't understand why!
I have many liberal values, (and typically tend to vote lib dem as they usually have the most policies which I like) and I dislike socialism.

I think you might have missed the sarcasm there...

I imagine there's a lot of people who have done well through the property boom that are left leaning. Lots of gentrified areas where houses now worth a lot of money, doesn't mean people's values would change just because their house price has gone up.

My parents have been libdems all their lives and their house is worth about that. They bought it at less than 100k though - what are they meant to do, sell up because prices have gone crazy?
