To ask what I should do next about this bike?

At the beginning of the year I bought a second hand motorbike from a proper shop but via eBay. They had very good reviews both on eBay and on their own Facebook page and seemed very reputable. Shop is around 100 miles away so they delivered the bike, which I paid for.

A few weeks later it broke down with a major engine fault. It had a warranty so they agreed to repair it. They have had it almost a month now and apparently it is still not fixed and will take another month to sort it (so 2 months total).

I have told them this is completely unacceptable and I want either a courtesy bike in the meantime or a refund (minus the delivery charge) but so far they have not agreed. I really cannot afford to buy a new one. Aibu to ask for advice on what to do next? I told them when they took it for repair that I needed it back within 2 weeks but obviously they don't give a shit about this timescale or the fact that I really need it back and working. Would the police be able to do anything or am I screwed?

Don't really want to contact police as they have better things to do but wibu to take this further and if so HOW!!!!

I suspect it would be a question for citizens advice rather than the police. It doesn't sound like they've committed a crime, but it does sound like a consumer issue.

Trading standards - Check with your local council.

SharkiraSharkira · 11/05/2017 20:27

Any idea how long that takes? I really need the money or the bike back asap!

You're better off asking for a refund.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 11/05/2017 20:29

Not a police matter I'm afraid. Did you pay via PayPal? And YY to Trading Standards.

Awfulatmaths · 11/05/2017 20:29

How did you pay for it?

SharkiraSharkira · 11/05/2017 20:30

I have but they won't give it - at least so far anyway. I would have thought it makes more sense from their end to just give the money back. It wasn't expensive in the first place!

Do you have proof of the warranty? If so you probably need to send them a letter recorded delivery, stating that they have 14 days to repair or refund otherwise you will pursue the amount in the small aims court.

Trading Standards will be able to assist you with your rights and wording if you like.

SharkiraSharkira · 11/05/2017 20:33

Paid via bank transfer on delivery rather than PayPal.
