Parking thread! With diagram! And notes!

I know you all love a good parking thread.

Currently we are having some work done on our house, and are unable to use our drive.

Before, one of us would park on the drive and the other outside the house but the builders like to park outside the house so we are having to park elsewhere.

We live on a quiet road and everyone parks outside their houses. There's never any issues.

I am mostly parking at the purple locations on the diagram which are outside people's houses but not usually used for parking. Sometimes I park outside our house however if I feel like it and will need the car the next morning.

DH has mostly been parking either outside our house as he gets home after the builders leave, and leaves before the arrive, or at the green location which is a parking layby.

The layby has no restrictions. There are no parking restrictions around here at all.

So the other night DH found a note on his car. It's the crumpled one in the pic. It says "please note this is for (Road name) residents only. Please park elsewhere. Thank you.

DH knocked on the door of the house the layby is outside and asked if they minded him parking there and they said no. They also said they hadn't put the note there.

It's worth me mentioning that on occasion if someone has been parked outside our house I have parked in the layby and no one has ever said anything. DH has a distinctive car which it's possible people might think is flashy. I drive a standard mum type car. This might be relevant.

Anyway we ignored the note but for the next few days DH has parked elsewhere as spaces were available.

Last night he parked in the layby and this morning found note 2 which is in capitals and a bit aggressive.

I think the reference to trust houses is the HA houses as these roads were built by a housing trust years ago and many are still HA. Ours is privately owned. This may be relevant.

DH is worried that his car might get damaged next. We've no idea who is leaving the notes. DH wants to go knocking to find out but I think this might be a bad idea.

What's clear is that they're pissed off and we need to handle it somehow as our builders will be here for a few more weeks yet.

So ok I know I'm not BU but it looks like this might escalate and I'd like some advice. DH wants to phone the HA and/or council but I think maybe police?

We've lived here nearly ten years and are considerate neighbour's so this is both annoying and concerning.

It wasn't just CAPITALS it was exclamation marks too Wink

Peaface no! Just that they seem pretty pissed off about it. Two notes is excessive no?

I've put my car there now and will see.

There is actually another person in our road who regularly parks in that layby so this feels pretty personal. It's very odd.

I only thought about calling 101or whatever it is to log the notes in case of any damage

I didn't mean to make DH's car sound wanky. It's not posh just a distinctive colour.

I don't think there's such a thing as calling 101 to log anything non-criminal. Just keep the notes incase you need them! Be interesting to see if a note goes on your car, or if someone has just taken agin his!

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 11/05/2017 20:50

I'd check 100% that I was entitled to park there, then I'd leave a note on the dash telling them this and make sure I had a camera so if they caused any damage, it would be on film.

Twats.

Across the road from me are 4 houses with grass in front so no parking for them at all. One of them parks outside my house all the time and only goes out about once a fortnight to Lidl. If the space is ever there, I park there as space is precious around here and I often have to park quite far from my house. If I have parked outside my own house and he has had to park one space back, he waits until I go out and moves his sodding car forward. Some people are dicks about parking.

GiraffeorOcelot · 11/05/2017 21:56

Don't waste police time by logging notes. Nothing criminal has been done. Yes keep the notes and I would date them when received too so you know that but just writing a note is not a criminal act.

Madwoman5 · 11/05/2017 22:32

Contact the HT Neighbourhood Manager and raise your concerns. They manage the residents in the area and will confirm whether the layby is reserved for HT only. They will probably know or have a good idea who is doing it too! If cleared by the NM, leave a note to say, parking authorised by x name, neighbour manager, moanytown housing trust. Tel no xxxxxx.

Sisinisawa · 12/05/2017 15:02

No note on my car today. Seems they just have a problem with DH. So weird.

Hmmm! Is his car a particularly irritating colour?

Tapandgo · 12/05/2017 22:42

Bizarre

Sisinisawa · 13/05/2017 13:39

It's a red car.
Hardly that unusual but not so common these days.
I'm going to continue parking there and see what happens. It's only in the week as at weekends we can both park outside our house.

maybe thye dont recognise the car not that it mattera as if theres no restriction i can go and park there if i want

Tapandgo · 13/05/2017 15:04

There's was a nut job that objected a residents yellow car being parked in the village at Bibury in the Cotswolds - they defaced his car in the end. However - within weeks a whole fleet of yellow cars entered the village in solidarity - an amazing site. I hope they make it an annual event 😂. (The car company have now renamed the paint colour after the car owner!)
