Inflatable booster seats??

Just seen an advert for the Special Buys at Aldi. One of them includes an inflatable booster cushion. Aibu to wonder how these were approved to be sold in the first place? Happy to be told otherwise but they just don't seem very safe to me, what if they puncture half way through a journey?

It looks lovely but maybe they are designed to be taken to placed when visiting such as a cafe or cinema and not as a car booster. I doubt they would pass a crash test.Hmm

RockCrushesLizard · 11/05/2017 12:03

They're to use instead of a high chair, not as a car seat substitute.

PookieDo · 11/05/2017 12:03

My ex had these in his car for a while a few years back. They are really tough plastic from what I recall, harder than a lilo for instance but I didn't like them, I would worry they could deflate on impact

PookieDo · 11/05/2017 12:03

Yeah I would use them for a table or cinema NOT a car and hopefully it says so on the packaging!

Why hire a booster seat when you’re driving a hire car abroad? in the product description.

Doesn't seem safe to me if it's inflatable.

Heirhelp · 11/05/2017 12:05

the description says they are for use in cars! I thought booast seat without a highback where nolonger safe to sell.

BillyNotQuiteNoMates · 11/05/2017 12:05

These are designed as comfort rather than safety. The link does state the legal requirements for car safety and these are not for young children. They do suggest them for travelling abroad, one supposes for countries who do not have our regulations. I can see a use for them at restaurants.

DeleteOrDecay · 11/05/2017 12:12

Yeah they're definitely advertised for use in a car. I suppose they would be useful abroad but I can also see people buying them for everyday use at home too.

I'd be worried about them deflating over time and keeping on top of keeping them at the right level of inflation. Seems like a lot of faff really for something that's meant to be convenient.

I have one! Brought it last year when DD's car seat no longer fitted between the boys seats in the new car. It is quite hard to deflate, and basically the cushion puts her about 6cm higher, and strap on the back of it adjusts the seatbelt so it will not decapitate her in the event of a crash. (She is 136cm )

Yep, they're car boosters. We have some to use in cabs (don't own a car). Perfectly adequate to keep seatbelt in place for an older child.
