to want clothes labels to be easier to remove

Am I the only one who can't stand the feel of clothes labels against my skin?
Cutting them off makes them even more scratchy so I have to unpick them. Most are sewn into the seam, which then has to be sewn up to stop it unravelling.
I end up wearing knickers inside out as labels are impossible to unpick but can't do this with T shirts, stretchy tops etc because it'd look too weird.

I bought dd some knickers from H&M and had to cut 8. Yes 8. Fucking tags out!!

Ravenblack · 11/05/2017 10:07

I agree that they should be easier to remove. They don't bother me most of the time, but occasionally they do. Labels are particularly irritiating if the item of clothing is new. Not so bad when it's been washed several times.

The labels on kids clothes from Zara are totally ridiculous. Unnecessarily long and way too many, always cut them off!

Medeci · 11/05/2017 10:30

Cutting off labels is easy, but doesn't help as the bit left is still annoyingly itchy.

YANBU. I hate labels. I've actually started shopping in places/for brands where the info is "written" on the material rather than on a label. Primark actually have a lot of tops like that.

Medeci · 11/05/2017 10:55

salt great info Smile. I had no idea label-less clothes existed.

Boden do it quite often too, I don't know if it's just kids t shirts.

HalfCarrot · 11/05/2017 11:37

I have a few of the primark tops where the label info is just printed instead which is great but they all still have side labels and they're made of scratchy plastic Angry

weeder · 11/05/2017 12:06

I couldn't agree more - sometimes the stitching on the label is better in the garment! I like those clothes with just a print instead.

saltandvinegarcrisps1 · 11/05/2017 14:25

Been checking my wardrobe! I've got 11 tops with no label - 2 primark, 7 M&S and 2 next. All t shirt type tops although some are my "smart" t shirts.

Deathraystare · 11/05/2017 15:45

Not only do they irritate but sometimes they are as thick as a book!

CheshireChat · 11/05/2017 17:10

I've found my people- why have lovely soft fabric for the t-shirts, occasionally even the tags themselves are fine, but the actual stitching is made using fucking fishing line.

OhSoggyBiscuit · 11/05/2017 17:33

I had to cut the tags out of some leggings from sainsburys recently because they've started using really scratchy awful ones at the waist and it was really uncomfortable.

BigDamnHero · 11/05/2017 17:59

I'm almost certainly autistic, DS1 has an autism diagnosis and DS2 is being assessed. We're all have a myriad of sensory issues and I feel like I spend half my bloody time removing labels from clothes!

And I even have a couple of tops I can barely wear because the seams at the shoulders seem to have a sort of strip of plastic stuff sewn along them?! What's that about??

Ev1lEdna · 11/05/2017 19:01

No YANBU - if I forget to take them off clothes my son rips them off and tears his clothes. Drives me insane but he can't tolerate labels at all.

A bralet I have from H&M had a book sewn in the side, I had to unpick/rip the label rather than the seam because there was v little seam allowance.

Also fishing line thread and that plastic tape stabiliser you find on shoulder seams

HeatedCatFurniture · 11/05/2017 19:07

Zara is the worst for this. I swear they make their labels out of razor blades. I got rubbed raw by the edge of a cut off one the other day Sad

Medeci · 11/05/2017 21:01

Ev1 iknow how your son feels. I once had to stop on the hard shoulder of the M1 to strip to the waist and didn't give a shit who saw me. The label on a vest bra suddenly became unbearably itchy and I couldn't stand it a minute longer.

toffee1000 · 11/05/2017 21:07

Why on earth do they also use those great long loops of ribbon at the neck of t-shirts??? They never used to do this, I swear. It might be for coat hangers when they're in the shops but people don't put t-shirts in wardrobes, do they? I just bung mine in a drawer, no hanging up needed.

TheSecondOfHerName · 11/05/2017 21:11

I have to remove any label that will be touching my skin. If in a seam, I unpick the seam, remove the label and then resew the seam. Two of my children also prefer the labels removed.

The absolute worst label placement is the middle back of the waistband of pants / knickers / briefs, so the label dangles into the cleft between the wearer's buttocks.
