To ask my neighbour not to put a sprinkler on for 2-3 hours every night?

He's been doing this for the last few weeks, even when it's been cold and cloudy. In the south west but the sprinkler is on for hours almost everyday.

The noise is annoying and it feels really wasteful. I'm probably being unreasonable, but it makes no logical sense one to even have it on, two to have it on for so long.

personally I don't think his wastefulness is any of your business. The noise level is hardly excessive and done generally by a reasonable hour.....so IMO YABU.

Bring on compulsory metering!

BestZebbie · 09/05/2017 20:20

Out of interest, do you make as much noise as a sprinkler whilst you are working in your shed and listening to it?

Wolfiefan · 09/05/2017 20:20

If it's not a garage conversion then I am not surprised you can hear the noise. Work elsewhere?
You clearly think it's unnecessary for them to water the lawn. They don't.

brexitstolemyfuture · 09/05/2017 20:21

Totally agree barbarian.

To those that think being wasteful with water is none of my buisness. What do you think of the damage being done to the environment? Is that also none of my buisness?

YANBU.

We just had a very dry winter and spring. He's an arse for wasting water.

fiorentina · 09/05/2017 20:25

I've been watering in the SE. We've had no rain for months and I have lots of small growing plants that I want to keep thriving. I don't have a sprinkler, I soak the plants every couple of days.

MatildaTheCat · 09/05/2017 20:25

I've just returfed a section of lawn and am watering it most days. Not for that long.

Anyway you can't complain about a bit of clicking for a few hours early evening, I thought he had it on all night from your title. Why don't you get into conversation and actually ask him about it? Or wear headphones as you work?

WannaBe · 09/05/2017 20:27

Yabu.

If the water companies actually did something about water leakage we wouldn't have anything near the water shortages we do.

I grew up in a country that had real droubts and I just can't get worked up about hosepipe bans in this country. If they utilised the water properly we wouldn't be in this position every year.

As for damaging the environment, presumably you don't drive a car?

FixItUpChappie · 09/05/2017 20:43

I'm sure your neighbour knows that wasting water isn't great for the environment....unless he's living under a rock on the lawn in question. You don't change hearts and minds by sticking you nose in with unsolicited environmental advice about someone's lawn maintenance (IMO).

Wolfiefan · 09/05/2017 20:44

So is it the noise or the wasteful use of water you object to?!
Confused

BluePeppers · 09/05/2017 20:55

The best way to avoid wasting water isn't to stop watering the lawn. It's asking water companies to repair the water pipes that are leaking so much.

Asking people to be careful up to the point that it's OK for people to stop minding their own business and start judging people is only ok if you ask the same from the water companies IMO.
