I just got overpaid...

So I was due 240 euros for 26 hours but got paid 305 euros... Its cash.

I was racking my brain trying to think whether it was money for hours I hadn't been paid for, but nope I'm up to scratch.

A few weeks ago my boss pretended he couldn't find my wages, I thought he might have took them back to pay for something else, thinking id forgotten... Aibu to keep the money? Or is it his mistake , he should keep a closer eye...?

I'm not their best friend but I pay my taxes so I'm probably theirs.

I do a lot of work for companies on a self employed basis and I could easily pocket the taxes which are sometimes painful to pay to Revenue but I do it.

She was underpaying the government re taxes as she was getting cash.

There wouldn't be much tax to pay on that, well not in the UK anyway.

MyheartbelongstoG · 10/05/2017 19:03

It depends on how many hours she is working really doesn't it.

If someone is getting paid cash it's quite likely they are claiming Social Welfare.

Op is not doing herself any favours re her pension etc if she is being paid cash.

DoubleNegativePanda · 10/05/2017 19:16

I was overpaid $300 last month. When I realized (standing in line at the bank) I texted my boss to let him know and he said to keep it, it was more trouble to correct. But he much appreciated that I'd said something.

Being a seriously suspicious person, I always first think that I'm being tested in these situations for some reason. Yes, I know that's stupid.

SquidgeyMidgey · 10/05/2017 19:19

I agree that you should own up as he is legally entitled to ask for it back at any time. But then I'm the government's best friend and pay my taxes so maybe I'm just too honest.

Op is not doing herself any favours re her pension etc if she is being paid cash.

Totally agree with that.

I'm in Ireland btw. The cash thing is done a lot here

It's not. And its not just him breaking the law, its you too. Are you signing on as well?

LemonyFresh · 10/05/2017 19:32

Sounds like where I used to work in Ireland -
Are you in Dublin 2 by any chance?

SugarnetMum · 10/05/2017 21:50

Yes - it is done a lot.

I'm not signing on - I'm in college so can't. When I wasn't in college though I was signed on and working in a cash paid job.

No need for any of you to worry about my pension. I'm in my early 20s I have plenty of time to pay my taxes.

And if a few of you would read up - I already told him he overpaid me. Its done!

If you don't pay taxes and build up enough contributions you won't qualify for your state pension.

user1493022461 · 11/05/2017 03:46

You don't choose when to pay your taxes. Who do you think is paying for your college?
