Hen do AIBU

Hi everyone!

This isn't a very exciting hen do AIBU (sorry!) but it's an accommodation one.

I'm organising a hen do for a friend, and 12 of us planning to go away for two nights (Friday and Saturday) at the start of June.

We'd like to book somewhere in central Oxford if possible that would sleep all 12 of us. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas for good accommodation options (perhaps an Airbnb-type rental) in the central Oxford area please?

I've looked on Airbnb and Home and Away, but haven't yet had much luck. Would be great if you know of any accommodation options!

Thanks so much! :)

I've lived in Oxford for the last 10 years and the problem with it is that the University & Colleges own pretty much the entire city centre, leaving precious little privately owned property so the few hotels that exist are ££££ and as most of the (privately owned) houses are quite small around the city, Airbnb's tend to be 2 bedrooms, maybe 3. The Airbnb's in the big houses are £££, as you've probably seen.

One affordable option, if you are going out of term, is to try University Rooms - www.universityrooms.com/en/city/oxford/home

The Oxford Spires on Abingdon Rd is nice though. www.oxfordspireshotel.co.uk/partner/oxford-spires/

Failing that (and I HATE admitting defeat in stuff like this) you might be better off going for a fab house in one of the Cotwoldy villages not too far from Oxford? Head out 45 mins and you're in Burford etc.

There is a Travellodge by Redbridge park and ride, not far from town and buses will go regularly

Thanks icant and Rainbow :) icant, that's a really good point about a lot of the accommodation either being university-owned or really pricey. I'm just wondering whether it would be worthwhile renting something just outside Oxford that's a taxi ride into the city centre? And then we could perhaps have more luck then with finding somewhere with enough space to sleep everyone.

Keble college has lots of rooms for visitors to Oxford, really nicely decorated & code to the centre.

Have you thought of a youth hostel? With that many people you may be able to book out an entire dormitory. Don't dismiss it out of hand, they can be quite fun!

There will be precious little college accommodation available in early June as it's still term (sixth week ie prime exam season so lots of colleges are effectively on lock down as far as visitors are concerned) - would have been an excellent shout for July though.

We've stayed at the youth hostel by the station before. Very basic but small en suite rooms and convenient for the alcohol end of town.

We had an awful stay at the Spires fwiw but that was a few years ago.

We stayed in some great apartments in Oxford for a friend's hen do a few years ago. I'll get back to you in a couple of hours with a website (if it's still there). They had good sized living rooms so we could have drinks and games with all of us in one apartment (we slept in 3 different ones but the bride and a few others were in the biggest one and we used that in the evenings before we went out).
