In a well-known coffee chain rhyming with Hosta, I witnessed the following (as did agog DD):

Younger woman feeding small child in highchair, large ride-on toddler motorbike thing sticking half-out from under table; older woman wishing to pass her, carrying tray of coffee. There was room to walk past (just) but it was very tight.

OW: I can't get past
YW: I'm feeding my child
OW: But I can't get past
YW: Well what do you want me to do about it?
OW: Move your things out of the way

Within twenty seconds this had become shouting on both sides:
YW: I've got every right to be here, you can't tell me to move, you are so rude you didn't ask me nicely, why should I move for you etc etc
OW: You should move out of the way, you're blocking my way, you should leave the bike outside, I'm not the one who's rude...

So, WIBU to watch in just as much fascination as DD we don't get out much ? Or, I suppose, more sensibly, who WBU out of older woman and younger woman? OW could perhaps have gone round the other way. YW could definitely have been more helpful and tucked her stuff out the way.

Free entertainment - cool Grin

Notmyrealname85 · 09/05/2017 13:06

YW was in the wrong - even if OW wasn't super nice about asking (her approach sounded fine to me though?!) YW was already in the wrong and should've said a brief "oh I'm sorry" and moved the damn thing

Controversial opinion (don't kill me) - strangers don't care that you've had kids. They don't care if you're tired from the night before, from kids or not - it'll be acknowledged but doesn't give you a free pass or a right to act any differently from others!

I'll help another parent if I see them struggling with a pram etc, I don't mind a child's tantrum if the parent looks like they've vaguel tried, but you don't get immunity for it

BeMorePanda · 09/05/2017 13:08

well the bike thing shouldn't have been blocking the aisle in the first place. It's fairly obvious that it will cause problems for others.

So she wins the "I'm More Entitled Than You Are" award!

Shame you didn't have any popcorn OP.

Dancergirl · 09/05/2017 13:08

OP, YABU, Caffè Nero is better than Costa

Nope, Cafe Nero's cakes are disappointing. Costa's are yummy.

HappyFlappy · 09/05/2017 13:09

Can we have a diagram, please OP. YABU not including diagram

We have had diagrams of coffee shop wars disagreements before, and they are enormously helpful. It is particularly good if one (or both) of the protagonists was making a Cat'sBum Mouth.

We could then judge how much space there was, how big the toy was, how big the tray was, how big the baby was how big the enormous milky boobies were and how much space was available to wriggle/ charge/lunge through.

Colours would be nice.

I8toys · 09/05/2017 13:13

She shouldn't be blocking the aisle in a coffeeshop so that others can't move around freely. Entitled.

Quimby · 09/05/2017 13:19

YW sounds like a nightmare

Kokusai · 09/05/2017 13:21

The mother was U.

Would she have preferred the other lady to have tried to squeeze past, potentially spilling her hot drink all over her and baby?

HeyHoThereYouGo657 · 09/05/2017 13:22

Younger Woman was wrong .

B1rdonawire · 09/05/2017 14:39

Mortified I failed on the diagram front, better late than never I hope. The older woman's tone was a tad abrupt when she first spoke, but not that merited a shout back I wouldn't have said.

10/10 for diagram, OP Grin
I see it would have been possible for the OW to attempt squeezing past and accidentally spill her coffer on YW...

shyturnip · 09/05/2017 15:02

Bravo 👏🏼

ScarlettFreestone · 09/05/2017 15:06

I'm a problem solver. In your position I have got up and silently moved the ride on.

(Wonderful diagram!)

BBCNewsRave · 09/05/2017 15:11

Turnip What's the second emoticon you used? Been waiting to ask someone!

amusedbush · 09/05/2017 15:29

YABU, Caffè Nero is better than Costa

Caffe Nero's coffee always, ALWAYS tastes totally burnt. I tried it a couple of weeks ago for the first time in years and yes, still acrid and bitter Sad

shyturnip · 09/05/2017 15:31

BBC
How strange! I just used the clapping emoji on iPhone: 👏🏼
Not sure what that beige square next to it is!

shyturnip · 09/05/2017 15:32

...and there is it again! Grin

Andrewofgg · 09/05/2017 15:35

ScaletFreestone So would I - we are both spoilsports!

Louiselouie0890 · 09/05/2017 15:38

There both as daft as each other would have took both of them ten seconds to solve the problem. Yw could move toy ow could have gone a different way. Neither is the end of the world. I hate it when chairs are bolted to the floor so you can't replace a chair with a highchair so they have to sit in the aisle and yet people still insist on squeezing past carrying a tray of food and drink over kids head

WateryTart · 09/05/2017 15:39

The mother definitely. Awful woman, so rude.

caz323 · 09/05/2017 15:40

Applauding the diagram - brilliant!

HappyFlappy · 09/05/2017 15:46

You have redeemed yourself B1rd.

Excellent diagram with impressive attention to detail. Grin

SapphireStrange · 09/05/2017 15:46

Mother is worse but it wouldn't have killed the other woman to say 'Excuse me, could you move this a tiny bit so I can get by?' rather than leading with 'I can't get past'.

KurriKurri · 09/05/2017 15:48

Caffè Nero is better than Costa

Surely you mean 'Haffe nero is better than Hosta'

TheSnowFairy · 09/05/2017 15:59

This is MN.

The OW is ALWAYS wrong Wink
