Headlice - no idea what to try next....

I am at my wits end.

Have been battling with headlice since last summer. Finally my 2 DC were under control, we went to the hairdresser a month ago and for the first time weren’t asked, “Have they had headlice recently”, no evidence of casings or anything.

Anyway been so focussed with the DC took the eye off the ball with myself. 5 weeks ago discovered that I had a pretty severe case. Treated with Hedrin Once immediately, and again about a week later. Been using a nitty gritty comb daily in the shower.

Anyway DD checked my head last night and they are back…didn’t have any Hedrin so did a very long, careful wet comb last night with lots of conditioner and nitty gritty comb, could see the eggs coming out on the comb, cleaned it after each use on a muslin cloth etc. Dried hair with very hot hair dryer. Anyway DD looked this morning and said whilst they are reduced there are still eggs/ casings there and don’t have to look too hard to find them.

How do I get rid of these and why have they come back even with using nitty gritty in shower every day. I had my hair coloured about 3 weeks ago (just after the 2nd Hedrin treatment) and hairdresser didn’t mention it so can’t have been many but obviously enough left behind to reinfect. I don’t want to use the chemicals a third time as a) they obviously aren’t getting rid of them completely and b) despite claiming to be safe for coloured hair they definitely stripped the colour off last time.

Any bright ideas, just so fed up with this.

Combing with coconut oil helps. Put loads on everywhere scalp and hair and then comb out with a nit comb. Seems to drown the little buggers.

My boys went through a few months off constant headline, drive me mental!

I haven't had chance to read all the replies, sorry if this has already been suggested.

I found lylclear to be the best treatment, smells vile but it does kill the nits.

Daily coming with a nitty gritty comb, put some conditioner in a water bottle, tea tree oil and water. Spray and comb.

Using tea tree spray on there hair before school, it's a great deterrent and a layer of hair spray on top!

And do a good comb as soon as they are back from school, not to give any nits that may have jumped into their hair chance to lay eggs.

Op I don't know where you're based but there are salons you can go to that deal exclusively with nit/lice removal. I got my dd's done out of desperation last year and they removed every last one. £50 it cost but totally worth it. I'd spent £££ on combs, treatments and even a zapper which was next to useless.

The only think that worked for us was DERBAC-M £10 online for a big bottle that did 3 heads of very long hair (with nitty gritty comb)
Didn't have to repeat and for some strange reason haven't been infested for 18 months?

It's a miracle! www.pharmacyfirst.co.uk/derbac-m-liquid-200ml-derj122.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9KnopoTk0wIVzzLTCh1iewiBEAQYASABEgLCzvD_BwE

I used to constantly catch nits as a kid. Nothing worked for me then my mom was in the doctors reading an old magazine, you know the readers tips thing? A concoction to get rid of them.

Put a load of almond oil, tea tree oil and conditioner in a jug. Pop in the microwave for twenty seconds till it's warm.
Apply, comb through with nit comb, then wrap in cling film over night.
I'm the morning scrub the hair with shampoo before putting water on. Rinse and shampoo again and condition. Comb though again.
Do it two nights in a row then once every two weeks. I've never had them since.

Throughout their time at primary school, every Sunday I would smother my kids' hair in conditioner at bath time and do a comb through with a nit comb. If I found anything , I'd do it every 3 days till clear then go back to every Sunday. Any lice picked up from class mates never survived that routine. Made me laugh when I saw a piece of work my daughter had done at school on what she did on different days of the week. Yep...On Sunday we do nit combing!! When I worked as a primary teacher I did a quick nit comb when I conditioned my hair every morning in the shower. I remember finding a huge louse once but no eggs or little babies so must have caught it before it could get to work.
