To buy individual slices of Soreen?

Ocado do either two loaves (260g each) or two packs of five individual (150g packs) of Soreen for £2.

Ds2 has a slice in his lunchbox each day. A squished, sweaty slice in a sandwich bag. I said, ooh they do individual ones, and they're the same price. Awesome.

Dh is up in arms. He says my profligate and wasteful nature is indicative of everything that's wrong with the world today. I say woo hoo, one less thing to faff with in the morning. I use a whole loaf of soreen a week so it amounts to the same thing.

Who is being unreasonable? And WIBU to also buy spray on butter (if I can find it) just to hammer my point home?

Soreen. Doreen is safe....for now!

PerpetualStudent · 08/05/2017 18:40

I've just added soreen to the online shop thanks to this thread (whole loaf, because I am greedy!)

OP, if your DH feels strongly about this, then sounds like he's just offered to take over making the DCs lunches...

BrieAndChilli · 08/05/2017 18:43

I bought a big sliced one last week. It's now all gone and I don't think anyone else in the house knew we had it! Blush

Bringmewineandcake · 08/05/2017 18:45

I don't like the individual ones as they have the crust all over rather than just around the edge.

sharkyandgeorge1 · 08/05/2017 18:56

Love the stuff, sliced, non sliced, little loaves, all amazing.
Try it toasted. You'll never look back.
Use the grill not the toaster Grin

Firstwomanonthemoon · 08/05/2017 18:59

I have bought a single slice that had butter on it, I think in Morrisons. Lovely.

wizzywig · 08/05/2017 22:26

Dear lord. Look on sainsburys. They have a choc and a toffee flavour soreen. The worlds gone mad!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 08/05/2017 22:31

I was shocked at my mother's lazy Soreen purchasing habit at the weekend - she buys it pre sliced! I was agog. Also felt slightly cheated that the pre sliced one is sliced thinly so it is flimsy and unsatisfactory, and didn't want to reveal my greed disappointment to my mother so just had the one slice. At home I would have had at least 3.

Nzou1050 · 08/05/2017 22:34

Around Halloween they had individual blood orange & choc chips ones which were amazing.

Pmsl at Doreen Grin

Blimey, can't remember the last time I had a lovely thick slice of malt loaf with butter. Delicious with a lovely cuppa tea.

Solasum · 08/05/2017 22:55

I did one glorious shop online and bought chocolate Soreen individual bites. Yum. They never appeared on Sainsbury's again, sob.

FelixtheMouse · 08/05/2017 22:57

DW's homemade malt lost is much nicer. .

Mermaidinthesea123 · 08/05/2017 22:58

OMG banana soreen and spray on butter ! How did I not hear about these wonders.

DrFoxtrot · 08/05/2017 23:25

YABU the unsliced malt loaf is squidgier and more moist. I've tried the sliced and it didn't quite hit the spot.

toffeeboffin · 08/05/2017 23:32

Two important things here :

Malt loaf was the BEST after school snack when I was a wee one. So filling.

Malt loaf must make amazing bread and butter pudding : has anyone tried it?

As you were.

Middleagedmumoftwo · 08/05/2017 23:38

Anybody tried the chocolate one? I keep eying it up but I'm scared to buy it...if it's as good as I expect it to be I'd have to eat the whole thing 😬

FelixtheMouse · 08/05/2017 23:40

Malt loaf bread & butter pudding is amazingly good but needs a shed load of custard.

drigon · 08/05/2017 23:53

I like it with cheese melted on top. Agree a bread and butter pud made with Soreen would hit the Spot!

WaitingYetAgain · 09/05/2017 01:13

Couldn't you cut a slice the evening before when you make the sandwich and pop it in one these type things?

No more sweaty Soreen and non packaging waste.

LittleLionMansMummy · 09/05/2017 01:26

Bought the sliced Soreen as a treat for dh (I hate the stuff) as it was reduced and he whinged because he likes the option of cutting himself a doorstep of it. Buying it was a massive sacrifice to my personal beliefs - I'd sworn never to buy it again because the brand had supported Brexit! It's the work of the devil I tell ya!

ExcuseMeButImHavingACrisis · 09/05/2017 01:28

I've never tried Soreen Blush

VerySadInside · 09/05/2017 01:29

Had to google to see what you were all talking about!

I never knew this was called Soreen. I've eaten it for at least 20years and it's always just been malt loaf. Never learnt the brand name even though it the only one I buy Confused

toffeeboffin · 09/05/2017 01:36

How did I guess lakeland would be mentioned ShockGrin

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/05/2017 05:34

I live in forrin-land. And DH does not understand my hysteria when the local Chinese supermarket has it.

Didn't know they supported Brexit though. Sad

notarehearsal · 09/05/2017 06:24

What's Soreen?
