To think I'm destined to stay bloody fat?

I would really appreciate some help on losing weight. On paper eat less and exercise more should be simple but I'm getting fatter by the day and it's making me miserable. I really could do with some ideas on how to get going and even lose a pound!
I have 2 stone to lose. It's not happening on my own, I've been trying for over a year and have just got heavier so I think I need some kind of accountability/structure.
I have tried slimming world and weight watchers in the past. I found slimming world encouraged me to eat lots and I couldn't bear the meetingsand all the muller light talk. Weight watchers conversely made me think about food all the time!
I think low carb may work for me.
I love exercise and run half marathons but this does not help my weight loss but I want to continue and up the exercise.
I'm thinking some kind of online plan where I have to 'check in'?
AIBU to think I'm just fat and forty now or is there something I can do?

I agree with some other posters. it looks like carbs and booze are your problem.

They were/are mine too. Breakfast is a peeled whole grapefruit (surprisingly filling) or yoghurt with a banana.

Lunch is a pack of oatcakes and hoummous and/or a whole carton of lower-fat soup (

So I think weights, low carbs and less booze are the answer.
Still looking for some form of 'accountability/check in' plan though.

Also, when I say weights, I don't mean the tiny ones people do in Pump class. Maybe get a personal trainer and get them to show you things like using the squat rack, bench press, pull-ups etc.

For examples of meals....we have salmon tagliatelle, a lot of fish and rice, thai curries, butternut squash, chicken and sweet potato chips, etc. For lunch I have boxed up dinner leftovers but in smaller portions. I find salad leaves me a bit hungry.

Don't go too restrictive like "NO CARBS". You'll just fall off the wagon and feel rubbish. Moderation is key.

Google Jason Vale, juicemaster.com

Choose from various length plans, from 3 days to 28 days, just juice, juice, soup and salad or super fast food. You can download the apps. Stick to it and you can lose a pound a day, as well as gaining insight into what proper food should be, and this should help keep the weight down when you've finished.

No bread, no booze, no buffets. That works for me; but I find it soooooooo hard to stick to.

Sorry batwoman , I meant to say these people have run a range of different programmes woe

Also, the low carb bootcamp here on MN has a very tight programme and support to keep you accountable.

Some people tweet their weight - could you find similar people to follow and tweet yours?

Fueledbybacon - interesting links.
Are you ultimately suggesting low carb though?

A thought - eating less and doing more are two things that work in concert. If you are trying to lose weight, success at either one will motivate and help propel you forward.

If you find that the eating less thing doesn't motivate you so well because you aren't doing well at it, perhaps you are wrong to use it as a launch pad - perhaps concentrate on the doing more for a bit. Set yourself some attainable goals.

Miles on the clock, calories denied - every goal you hit will motivate you and reward you a bit, so allow yourself the easier wins at the start.

Good luck! Flowers (and don't over do it)

I lost 12.5 stone in my 40s having been (obviously) morbidly obese all my life. I did it by cutting out sugars (all) especially in the form of alcohol and unrefined carbs. Very simply, each meal I ate was moderate ( had to ask opinions sometimes) and consisted of a protein, a veg/salad and half a cup of wholegrain/pulse. However, before even attempting this I took nearly a year to cut out the 'sugar'. I think sustained and big weight loss also requires giving it time and thought, eg journalling or attending support meetings. My experience is that busyness and 'on the fly' are the enemy of sorting what your body needs for sustained long term weight loss. You can counter this by mentally or actually meal planning ahead and shopping accordingly. Good luck :-)
