To contact Tesco about their truck driver tailgating me?

Even at 5mph over the motorway speedlimit in an attempt to get him to give me some space, the driver was basically up my backside for a good 10 minutes until I took my exit! I was in the left lane and there was plenty of space for him to overtake me if he had felt the need.

DH also said he was staring at me as I exited, and took his numberplate down. It was pretty scary to say the least (especially as I'm somewhat new at motorway driving) and if I'd had to brake we would have been smooshed Sad

Yes. Contact them. Not acceptable

Imaginingdragonsagain · 07/05/2017 21:10

I think you should complain.

Gallavich · 07/05/2017 21:11

Definitely tell them. Tesco don't want dickheads bringing the company into disrepute

OkapiCarrot · 07/05/2017 21:15

Okay, I will do then! I was thinking maybe their customer services form at first rather than any social media.

It was really scary and made me question if I was driving stupidly myself, but apart from observing the speed limit I don't see how! Surely if I was annoying him he should have just overtaken?

Was it a HGV?

Truck drivers can only go a maximum speed if there load is above 7.5 tonnes, so they may not have been able to over over take you.

However that does not mean he gets to tailgate you, so yes I would almost certainly make a formal complaint against them, most transport companies now have tracking devices on there trucks now.

OlennasWimple · 07/05/2017 21:17

I don't know why you're even asking - of course you should report, and many companies have a number on the back of their vans specifically for this purpose.

TreeTop7 · 07/05/2017 21:17

He could have caused a serious accident. It's still possible that he could, if no one pulls him up on his behaviour. Definitely contact Tesco.

MipMipMip · 07/05/2017 21:18

Do! We've complained previously (different company) they were horrified and bollocked the driver. They want to know.

OpalMoon · 07/05/2017 21:19

Unfortunately they'll do bugger all.
I had dashcam footage of one who almost wiped a car and van out, weaving all over the road and when I overtook him he had a phone up to his face in one hand and a bundle of A4 paper in the other up to his face squinting at the paperwork and slowly entering a telephone number onto the phone one digit at a time.
No hands on steering wheel, doing about 15- 20 mph on a 70mph road causing chaos. It was a liveried truck and trailer and I was told "nothing we can do, not one of ours". I pointed out as I was calling Tesco because, shock horror, it has TESCO on the side it was hardly likely to be B&bloodyQ but they said the bad drivers are 3rd party hauliers Hmm

I no longer shop there.

LurkingHusband · 07/05/2017 21:19

More lorries are fitted with cameras now than lorry drivers know of ...

specialsubject · 07/05/2017 21:25

Yes, absolutely. Tailgating kills. This guy needs to lose job at least, hopefully licence.

Ollivander84 · 07/05/2017 21:27

I would. I contacted ocado (for a nice thing!) to say thank you for how their driver had driven past me while I was riding my horse on the road

OkapiCarrot · 07/05/2017 21:28

Really Opal? That's truly awful. I hope as I have the plate number they'll be able to respond to it, here's hoping.

MsJamieFraser it was an HGV, but he was already doing over the max speed limit by 5mph as I was also [embarrassed] but only after he had been tailgating me for 5 minutes to try and get some space between us. It was at 8.30pm at night so the right hand lanes were completely empty, he could still have pulled into those and gone past me surely?

Oops! Meant that embarrassed to be a Blush !

strugglingstepdad · 07/05/2017 21:30

Now trucks are limited to a maximum of 60mph. So he wouldn't be doing 5mph over the motorway speed limit as that would be 75mph.

Eddie Stobart provide the logistics for Tesco wagons.

Are you sure it wasn't one of their home delivery vans? Even those I'm pretty sure are limited to 70mph.

Crispbutty · 07/05/2017 21:33

A fully loaded lorry can't just accelerate and pull out, nor can it slow down as quickly either. And they have speed restrictors to limit them to 56mph.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 07/05/2017 21:34

YNBU. Contact them.

I saw someone tweet ocado about a driver of theirs newrkt knocking them flying. They replied to the tweeters bemusement asking exactly where they were when it happened. Transpires they have GPS on their vans so I'd hazard a guess that Tescos drivers do too!

Toomanycats99 · 07/05/2017 21:41

We had a lorry right up behind us m25 before. Traffic was hovering about the 50 mark in my lane due to something ahead and a bit faster in other lanes so I couldn't pull out safely. I was terrified driving. He came off at same junction and we got company name. Rang them and they didn't give a monkeys. Told me it probably just looked big in the rear view mirror and that it was something to do with having the speed limiter on which was setting him at a constant speed.

Tigger365 · 07/05/2017 21:45

Just for clarification here, it is entirely possible for a HGV to go over 56mph, just not legal for them to do it

PeaFaceMcgee · 07/05/2017 21:51

I thought they could all do 70mph now as the law changed?

OkapiCarrot · 07/05/2017 21:52

Sorry, to clarify, the motorway I was on has a speed limit of 50mph! So he would only have been doing 55mph.

OP posts:
Crispbutty · 07/05/2017 21:54

Did you pull in front of him as you knew you were approaching your turn off?

PeaFaceMcgee · 07/05/2017 21:54

Hmm... Seems my DH told me wrong, after a quick google

OkapiCarrot · 07/05/2017 21:55

Crispbutty he wouldn't have needed to accelerate to pull out to begin with as the right hand lanes were completely clear due to it being 8.30pm on a route only really used at rush hour, and me going at 50mph to begin with.

Instead he waited until he was right behind me (as in I could only see the grill of the lorry in my rear view!) before accelerating WITH me to 55mph. He zoomed behind me and just stayed there until I left at my exit

OP posts:
OkapiCarrot · 07/05/2017 21:56

Crispbutty Really? No. I was in the left lane ever since leaving the city centre as I don't like to go over the speed limit and I know that pisses people off, so they can overtake me.

He approached me and stayed there.
