Not cynical at all. Realist more like.
Also the teachers are predicting grades for them based on? They've nothing to compare them too. I know if my dd gets less than those predictions she will feel like she's failed

My some is Y10, so will be the first year that sits all the exams under the new system. His school have said that the top 2% of pupils should get a 9 in each subject. Quite how it is going to work with qualifying grades to do A level is anyone's guess.

Son! Not some obviously

It's hideous. When I've been marking practice papers for my students (selective boys) I have despaired at the thought of those aiming for a 3 and how the hell they are going to access the papers. The assumed knowledge is quite high.

Your child is a guinea pig for the new system but they have committed to giving the same proportion of grades at each level as a previous poster said. I believe they have only committed to this for this year so you child is lucky they are not in year 10 or below. I teach maths.

Also predicted grades have been extremely hard for us as the exam boards haven't published anything. We use this proportion promise and grades from previous years to help us but we can't really know yet.
