to want to see job hours?

I am currently looking for a new job, I have two children and am limited as to what hours I can work.
So this is more of a frustrated post than an aibu but when companies advertise jobs why can't they state what the hours actually are instead of just putting 20 hours.
If they put the actual hours they are looking to cover surely they would then get the most suitable candidates. I feel it is wasting every ones time if I apply for a job and then if I'm successful enough to get an interview and they say the hours are 6-10pm, when I do not have any childcare.

Yes I agree OP, It would save everyone's time in the long run and it was a real big bear of mine when I was looking for jobs, OK, there may be some jobs where it may not be possible for employers to do this, but if they do know the hours the yes, they should state them.

Bug bear! Bloody auto correct!

Could you ring the company and ask before doing an application!

Redcliff · 07/05/2017 10:37

I've contacted companies before to ask when hours need to be worked. Often there is lots of flexibility which is why they don't specify times but I only work in offices and I'm sure retail etc is not so flexible. Good luck

YANBU. You are about to sign a contract, and the terms should be specific.
Companies that are vague, or misuse the term 'flexible', are actually using a loophole to bar single parents and disabled people from applying.
Any business that wants to encourage the disabled or working parents to apply needs to offer fixed hours and fixed pay.

I agree, at least if the hours are outside what most people would regard as a standard working day. There is also a difference between three days of c7 hours and five of c4.

DoloresTheRunawayTrain · 07/05/2017 11:55

The term flexible is often a misnomer in these situations. What they actually mean is full flexibility from you and zero flexibility from the company.

It would be easier all round to put it in the advert. Flexible to me normally means evenings and weekends lol
