Family weekend
Family time
Family day

I have a family but I don't feel the need to refer to family supermarket trip, family visit to great aunt Elsie, family evening. Especially when you see your family every day, it's not like you have to make weekends special because you're away a month at a time.

It irks me.

And I'm also in a bad mood so needed an outlet 😡

NotYoda I would be a very bad grammar sock puppet!

waybalooo · 06/05/2017 08:08

It's probably not so much the term but more the annoying social media posts. #baby #toddlerlife #stronglikemama #love #sunshine #adventures #familytime
Making the post with your 3 kids look like you have an idyllic serene life. And you know they person irl and know they have probably yelled the head of the kids 2 mins before. And they are a bitch to their #hubby and a nightmare to live with. But as long as the insta post which is filtered to within an inch of its life makes you look perfect then I guess you can believe that you are!
Another one that's gets me is fambam... day out with the fambam! Just fuck off!
Actions are the same as years ago... difference is too many people live their whole lives online!

Shockers · 06/05/2017 08:13

I honestly can't get worked up in a negative way about things which make other people feel happy.

I refer to Sundays as family time. Didn't realise I was being a knob by doing so. It's the only day we get to spend together as a family. Though I only use the term to DH.

Middleagedmumoftwo · 06/05/2017 08:19

Not as bad as "date night" or "making memories" 😷

FluffyBathTowel · 06/05/2017 08:28

Oh yes, #makingmemories makes me cringe as does #feelingblessed

FluffyBathTowel · 06/05/2017 08:29

Though sticking a hashtag infront of anything makes it automatically more cringy imo

#familytime #love #makingmemories #feelingblessed #mummysprincess

Ugh.

ShuttyTown · 06/05/2017 08:35

Yanbu OP. It's normally followed by #makingmemories or some other vomit inducing crap. Irks me too

BikeRunSki · 06/05/2017 08:36

I do see my family everyday, true. I hassle them to get up, drop them to breakfast club. By the time I get home they are often tired and grumpy, or DS has gone to an evening activity. It's nice - essential really - to regroup from time to time and share a meal, a film, a day out or something- where we are in a relaxed frame of mind. I don't see the need to prefix it "family" though.

MsGameandWatch · 06/05/2017 08:36

Yes "little family" bugs me too. I often find it used on here to justify not seeing the in laws very often.

YoureSpartacus · 06/05/2017 08:39

Just strange having @MrsJamesMatthews and @MsJamieFraser on the same thread.

#blessed

InDubiousBattle · 06/05/2017 08:42

Me- "are you going to the event in Saturday?"
Friend- " oh yes, we're having a family day"
So your'e bringing the kids then. YANBU, it's annoying. "Family dinner!", so you'll be feeding the kids too.....

KoalaDownUnder · 06/05/2017 08:47

YANBU. So smug and twee.

Yes, we know you have a family. We presume they are there when you go to the zoo / ride in the car / have Sunday dinner. Nobody gives a fuck.

#grumpyfucker #makingnomemories #fambalam

MrsJamesMathews · 06/05/2017 08:58

Spartacus if I was going to sock puppet I think I'd manage to come up with two names a bit less similar.

off to Google Jamie Fraser

MrsJamesMathews · 06/05/2017 09:01

Sam Heughan = wrong kind of cute for me.

Nicpem1982 · 06/05/2017 09:04

We have family time my dh works away a fair bit in the week and dd is in nursery/grandmas while I work until 5 most days so the time between arriving home and the bedtime routine can feel a little short in the week as we only have about an hour or so to play together before we eat.

We pencil family time in and do stuff just the 3 of us on a regular basis
