To hide in my house?

Popped back for lunch. Workmen turned up to paint front and back of house as I did (they were arranged by landlord for some point this month so I wasn't expecting them as such and today is my only lunch at home)

I've spoken to them, got the washing in out the way, and gone inside. I've locked the door, and drawn all the curtains in the house. I'm now sitting counting down to when I am leaving to go to my in laws, but worried about leaving the house empty so will shout goodbye loudly to the cats

I feel weird being indoors with all the curtains shut, and them clearly just the other side of the glass.... But this is normal right?! I'm not paying them or arranged this - they're doing a house two doors down as well.

Disclaimer : I have aspergers and anxiety so no idea of what I've done is normal!!!

I'd shut the curtains with people are outside as I dont want to be stared at. And I do the loud 'see you later' as well. But I'm socially awkward so maybe we're both wrong Grin

MichaelSheensNextDW · 05/05/2017 13:28

It's normal for person with aspergers and anxiety, yes SmileFlowers
It's a shame your landlord didn't give you an exact date so you were forewarned.
If you think about it, your house will actually be safer with them there doing the work - a great burglar deterrent!

monkeywithacowface · 05/05/2017 13:29

I used to hide when the window cleaners came. Just used to sit on the landing with all the upstairs doors shut Blush

I wouldn't worry too much about leaving the house empty but no harm in "shouting goodbye" if it helps you to feel less anxious

This ^^
Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, decided not to wear it because it 'felt wrong' & I alternate between a couple of favourites Grin

Michaelsheens that is actually wonderful to think it's safer with them. Thank you!!

I'm so glad I'm not alone! Well, I'm definitely not with them outside, but you know what I mean 😂😂

Now I need to pee. But they're cleaning the fascias on the upstairs windows. And I worry they'll hear me wee!!

They are actually painting the window above the toilet. I can't pee 😂

My windows are shocking, I can see their outline and hear their conversations! The window looks right onto the toilet. I can't even bring myself to go into the loo! 😂😂😂

No blinds, and not frosted - but has some of that crappy covering.

Just heard them walk down the ladder to their can, never run and peed so quickly!!

Well done Grin Typical they were doing THAT window!

LadyPW · 05/05/2017 13:48

IheartDodo · 05/05/2017 14:14

I always shout goodbye to nobody/cats.
I got into the habit when I lived alone because I read somewhere you were less likely to be burgled.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 05/05/2017 14:23

I remember pulling curtains when my house was being painted. And I hate it when the window cleaner comes so I either hide somewhere or make sure my head is right down so I can pretend I don't know they are there.

I'm awaiting an assessment for aspergers and anxiety is pretty likely with me. I'm not sure if I'm comforted with the fact this is considered 'normal' for people with these conditions or not Grin.

I hate having workmen in the house too. I never offer anything to them because I don't want to speak to them and I generally just want to hide. Also hated weeing with them in the house. When my kitchen fitters were here, who were ok actually, I used to take my stuff and sit on my bedroom. I ended up not being able to stand the bathroom fitter I used with his horrible darth vadar breathing and dreaded him coming. Bloody hate having to get anyone in to do stuff!

GrimmDays · 05/05/2017 15:50

I don't know if it's normal but I'm also aspie and I would totally do this.

GrimmDays · 05/05/2017 15:50

It's MY normal Grin

LittleMissFreedom · 05/05/2017 15:53

It's normal for me but I also have aspergers so can't really say Grin

dudsville · 05/05/2017 15:55

I do a quiet "will do" as I'm leaving!

BubbleBed · 05/05/2017 16:33

I love the aspergers normal. Feel a lot better now. Even if they did repaint my fence that I'd painted brown and made it black 🙈

Nothing worse than having people in working on your house. I pretend to be all nice and sociable and busy offering cups of tea, doing dishes etc so as not to look lazy. But in reality if they weren't there I'd be lying in bed in my pants on MN.

LadyPW · 05/05/2017 17:02

I always say goodbye the dogs when I'm going out and give them each a little kiss on their heads
I blow kisses to the cats sleeping upstairs! And to the dog gazing at me from the hall rug. And tell her I'll see her in a bit (or specify a time range if it's longer).
