My DD is 5 months tomorrow and today has slept pretty much all day.
Does anyone know why? I'm starting to worry, not in an A&E/out of hours way, but...she's slept alllllll day. Why? I'm intrigued.

Because she's tired?

LillyLollyLandy · 04/05/2017 22:39

Preparing for a growth spurt?

SiouxieQ · 04/05/2017 22:40

111 OP that doesn't sound normal.

LilacSpatula · 04/05/2017 22:41

Argh this is the problem.
Tired? Growth spurt? 111? Who knows and how do you decide?

I don't think 111 is sensible but who knows? She's not distressed. Just sleepy.

Has she been feeding ok? Alert/happy when awake? No temperature? If yes to all then she's probably just tired! If not then I'd be ringing 111.

SaucyJack · 04/05/2017 22:44

She'll be up all night now, and you'll be sorry for complaining ;-)

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 04/05/2017 22:45

Look just call 111 and speak
To
Someone who actually knows ! X really it's a baby and you
Need reaaaurance

loveulotslikejellytots · 04/05/2017 22:46

I remember dd doing this a few times when she was tiny. Usually was a growth spurt but please trust your instinct if you don't think it's normal. Call 111 if you don't think something is right. You aren't wasting their time, they will ask a few questions and will advise you accordingly. They were brilliant when dd developed a rash late one night, it was nothing but they put mind mind at ease.

GeillisTheWitch · 04/05/2017 22:46

Did she have jabs recently? That always made mine a bit more lethargic for a couple of days.

Mrsmadevans · 04/05/2017 22:46

Teething ? Catching up on sleep? Coming down with something? Has she had any vaccinations lately?

BertieBotts · 04/05/2017 22:48

Look up the signs of dehydration in babies. If she has been producing fewer wet/dirty nappies than normal, or if she's drowsy even when awake, or if she's taking significantly less milk than usual then I'd take her to the GP in the morning.

If you see any signs of dehydration now then it's worth getting her seen tonight. But I think it's likely just to be a developmental thing. She's probably working on something :)

innagazing · 04/05/2017 23:13

Have you woken her up to feed? She really needs liquids. Have you taken her temperature?

ScrambledSmegs · 04/05/2017 23:14

Can you rouse her from naps? As in, does she wake up properly and have time being alert and responsive, or does she seem really drowsy and go back to sleep again?

Blueskyonthehorizon · 04/05/2017 23:16

Perhaps she is incubating a virus. Check her temp as others have said. And wake her for her usual feeds to keep her hydrated. You'll prob find out in the next few days whether she is going to be poorly, if not sooner.

PolymathParadox · 04/05/2017 23:16

I wouldn't risk it with a baby, trust your gut. You say it isn't normal, and yes lots of people may post that their baby went through a sleepy phase whilst having a growth spurt etc but they can't see your baby, don't know your baby but you do. Give 111 a call, they won't mind if it turns out to be nothing but it is worth just checking with people that know and can properly assess if your baby needs to be seen. Hope she is OK

GlitteryFluff · 04/05/2017 23:22

Don't risk it with a baby, call 111
It's probably nothing but not worth leaving it.

LilacSpatula · 04/05/2017 23:28

Thank you all. I think I'll ring 111 and have a chat. But I hope you're right SaucyJack and she will be up at 4am. Thing
Parenting malarkey is awfully hard.

How is your DD today, OP?

LilacSpatula · 05/05/2017 15:19

Hi Bluesky, 111 were helpful and said to monitor feeding and wee output and all seemed well. She had a normal night and is back to her usual pattern today - so strange. Thanks for your help everyone!
