And all I can think is that 30 years on we've made hardly any progress at all.

Women who've been raped are still judged on their behaviour, their outfits, their past. Whether they were drinking, have a criminal record etc etc. It's not supposed to matter but it still does. They might not be allowed to mention it in court but it makes it less likely it will get to trial.

Will it ever change? Honestly I expected to watch this film and be shocked at the backwards attitudes, but it's all the same.

I thought you were talking about the channel 5 programme on recently. Different story but should be compulsory viewing for all schoolchildren aged 16 or so.

Good but harrowing movie, though.

I think you are being unreasonable. Investigations into sexual offences have improved dramatically and rightfully so. I investigate sexual offences and we don't focus on clothing, alcohol (although If the female is unable to give consent due to intoxication then obviously it's relevant. Criminal past doesn't come into the enquiry either.

Well that's good to hear Nick as it's not how it's seemed to me.

When I was assaulted there was no charges because a) I was drinking and b) I'd invited him into my house before. The police told me the CPS wouldn't pursue it as I wasn't credible enough.

That's pretty much what happens in the first part of the film. And there's plenty of (admittedly anecdotal) evidence that it still goes on.

greenhair Clearly I don't know nothing about your case and I'm sorry for you experience.

Many of the offences we investigate involve alcohol and that wouldn't be bar to any proceedings. Neither would prior contact with the suspect.

I can only speak for my area but our Crown Office is very proactive at getting cases to court where there is the evidence. I was at court last week with a case that the PF was doing everything that she could to get the case before a court and the victim was treated really well with loads of support. Of course it goes without saying that's how it should be!
