...to be peeved at the Pharmacy?

Went to the Pharmacy yesterday to get my husband some Canasten; he's suffering with really painful thrush - to the extent that even wearing underwear hurts.

The Pharmacist refused to sell me any; saying that my husband would need to book a Doctor's appointment. He's had thrush before, and bought it without problems.

So now he has to make a painful and embarrassing trip to the doctors which will waste everyone's time.

If you just need the cream some supermarkets sell it on the shelves?

lifesjoys · 04/05/2017 07:21

Or just go to another pharmacy?

It is sold on the shelves at supermarkets as a pp said.

Recurrent thrush may be a symptom of Diabetes.
Perhaps the pharmacist was thinking that DH should be tested for this.

It's because the over the counter stuff had different licences for sale. The canesten is probably only licenced for sale to women. Same as the strong one isn't licenced for use for fungal nappy rash for example. You have two options: go to gp, or go to different pharmacy and say it's for you (ie Lie).

I think thrush is unusual in men and is generally recommended they get checked by a doctor.

Are you pregnant?

My pharmacy was the same as you shoild only use it if prescribed when pregnant.

(Not relevant to the topic of your thread, but thank you for using "peeved" rather than saying that you were "furious" or "fuming"! "Peeved" is a proportionate reaction.)

Ronnyhotdog · 04/05/2017 07:50

I think symptoms as bad as you describe are unusual in men, if it's reoccurring I would be recommending a trip to the Drs. As another poster already said it could be a symptom of a deeper problem and I'd want to find out rather than masking it.
Look at it this way...... dh has had really bad thrush, pharmacy sold me canesten no problem, it came back and they sold it me again and then again, turns out dh actually has blah blah and has for months, I can't believe the pharmacist repeatedly sold it me with out advising he needed to be seen by a GP.......

I was told the same thing recently when I tried to buy it for myself.
