MIL is staying with us. She has a very restricted diet and I'm running out of meal ideas. She can't have:

  • beef
-pork (Though will eat sausages/bacon)
  • tomatoes
  • citrus
  • any spices (herbs are fine, but nothing hot/spicy)
  • alcohol
-shellfish -anything crunchy

So far we've had lamb chops, chicken, salmon, pasta with pesto and veg, lamb bolognaise (actually Greek pasticcia), mac and cheese and a sausage casserole. We're having prawns tomorrow. I'm running out of ideas after that.

I like to cook, but I mostly like spicy dishes, so I don't have a lot of bland recipes. We are not in the UK, so m&s gastropub meals are sadly not an option.

Any ideas? Ideally something easy that won't require hours in the kitchen.

Please let's not make this a thread about 'why is DH not cooking?' Or 'why do you hate your MIL?'. I just want recipe ideas.
Thanks in advance

That list isn't so restrictive, imho. Why not make bland versions of a dish, and add a separate sauce at the very end to your version, but leave MIL's plain?

Basically cook whatever you like but cook separately anything she won't eat & let her have the reduced version. It doesn't seem complicated to me. Crunchy is then the only shared restriction with this strategy... anyway, what meals do people have that are entirely crunchy except fresh salad?

Would she teach you some of her recipes if, as you say, she's a good cook?

How long is she staying?

Thank you all again, I'm feeling more inspired now. In answer to some questions/suggestions:
MIL has reduced mobility in one arm, so can't eat anything challenging (soups, tacos, wraps, anything requiring assembly).
She has taught me some recipes in the past, but sadly wouldn't eat them anymore because of her diet.
Curries or naan I'm pretty sure she wouldn't eat.
I have been cooking bland/spicy versions of side dishes and some mains (or separate sauces), and while it's not complicated, it's time consuming. I work FT so don't really fancy cooking 4 meals a day on my days off.
She's staying for another week.
I'm thinking baked cod or shepherd's pie, or poached chicken with lentils.
Now I'm craving halloumi! 🙂
