To Think the Tories Are STILL At War With The Disabled?

JoffreyBaratheon · 03/05/2017 10:56

As parent of a disabled child, this is what I'm preoccupied with, during a General Election...

Under Cameron and Osborne, and iDS - it was clear the tories were engaging in an all out war on the disabled. Cuts to benefits, and services and of course, the loathed and disgusting PIP replacing DLA...

But what has strong and stable (well, weak an unstable) Theresa May done to reverse the damage? Nothing, so far as I can see.

My son had DLA for life and by some miracle, managed to get PIP but will now have to re-apply in five years. If the tories have the cure for autism and it is going to be made available in 5 years - fair enough. But something tells me - they haven't. We were put through months of hell for that.

Other disabled people and their carers have far worse stories.

Now I might be stupid but I can't see what May has done to address the callous culture of PIP. She is still attacking the disabled. Or am I missing something and AIBU?

I think this should be enough to lose them the election. The fact they have attacked disabled people to the extent they have. Am I the only one not to be hoodwinked by this 'I'm only a vicar's daughter' BS? What she has done to the disabled is the least 'christian' thing I can think of and I want her held to account for it. Anyone else?

The images show what the paper chooses to show. If you can't see how the media is manipulated we're off to a poor start.
Pleased you got to meet Hitchens before he died.
Still don't think you've managed to think things through.

LarrytheCucumber · 09/05/2017 10:04

My DD has a Motability car because she has MS. Her retort to anyone who doesn't like it is 'You're welcome to my car, and you're welcome to my disability too.'

SynysterGates · 09/05/2017 10:09

"Private transport is a luxury."
REALLY for people like my dd who is in a wheelchair

how do you suggest they get about?
on a bus? PMSL seeing as people think a wheelchair user isn't allowed the space(see mn threads on subject)
what do you want people like her to do? stay at home? vegetate?

at least that poster proves the op's point

I'm currently receiving full PIP after an assessment in March. I then had to claim Universal Credit as ESA ended in my area and even though I had just had a full WCA assessment the week prior, they spent TWO MONTHS deciding whether or not to use it and decided that no, they couldn't! Even though it is the same company (ATOS) that do the assessments and both PIP & Universal Credit are part of the DWP! And the worst part is that they have left me and my 2yr old with ZERO money for those two months and we now have to wait the standard THREE months to start from beginning and go through the assessment phase!!!!!! So that's FIVE MONTHS with ZERO income!!!!!!! I'm terrified Sad I've tried speaking to a manager, CAB, TURN2US, Local MP, the lot. Absolutely nothing can be done. Local Authority Assistance scheme won't help as they helped me 5 months ago when my ex took everything I had and foodbank helped us three weeks ago so won't help again. I have told DWP this and they're still not interested! Have just advised me to contact SS and request my daughter be put in temp foster care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

whattheactualfudge · 09/05/2017 10:11

PS the full PIP I've been awarded, doesn't start until Sep 2017 as my current claim is ongoing which goes straight to Motability for my car. So I don't currently receive any money from them.

Flowers fudge

"Private transport is a luxury"
we had to give up on public transport when my son starting turning navy blue on the bus. We managed coping with all his vomiting before then but stopping the bus and putting the travelling public through a call out to the paramedics was just too much to put other people through. We had to pay thousands extra for a wheelchair accessible vehicle when he was a child though his DLA mobility payments contributed to the leasing of it.
Have we deteriorated so much in our national values that people are being encouraged to view vulnerable people as targets to take away their right to leave their beds and go outside the house? What has happened to people's decency and moral compass? There is a right way in life and a wrong way and we are heading down the wrong track as a society when these attacks are made on people who through no fault of their own are unable to work.

ShiningArmour · 09/05/2017 10:24

That's shocking fudge Sad.
It will cost the state a hell of a lot more to put your dd into foster care than to sort this crazy situation out!

24HourTrainer · 09/05/2017 10:28

Spikeyball

You can't just spout things about those on good incomes ...

Why resort to being rude? Do you want to have an adult conversation or not?

The means test should be relative to the cost of the disability. I don't pretend to know the figures despite my 'spouting on'.

So, what do you think? Just a flat rate of, well, you tell me, payable to anyone who is disabled in any way.

Dawndonnaagain

I think the best part of your "If you can't see how the media is manipulated we're off to a poor start." is the fact that the image says "[Corbyn] believes in social justice, a fairer society and looking after the poor and vulnerable".

So, are you saying that this was the media twisting it? Which media? It was social media (or Corbyn's idiocy) which caught him out lying about Virgin Trains.

SynysterGates

You don't think private transport is a luxury? What is it then, a basic human right? The last bus I used had pneumatic suspension to lower itself and then a ramp extended for the wheelchair to get on. That seems like a costly addition for people exactly like your daughter in her chair.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 09/05/2017 10:31

PIP isn't means tested.

An old uni acquaintance of mine who works as a legal advisor for their local council gets PIP for their MS.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 09/05/2017 10:33

whattheactualfudge please get your MP involved. ATOS shouldn't be doing the WCA assessments for ESA anymore. The contract was passed to Maximus after ATOS made such a shambles out of it the Tories had to dump them PDQ. Still bizarrely offered them part tender for the PIP contract though Hmm Capita have the other half.

Dawndonnaagain · 09/05/2017 10:34

Trainer.
The virgin trains things is not relevant, too many people on both sides claiming.
The fact is that you can say his policies are idiotic, I would disagree, but unless you know the man, then you can't say he's an idiot. Other than that, yes, what's happening to fudge is grim, and yes it would cost the state more. Like the woman who had her motability vehicle removed. The government now pays for her taxis to work. It's costing them 30,000 per annum. Idiotic policies. It would have cost far less for her to have retained her vehicle.
Other than that, don't you think it's a tad déclassé to come onto a thread in which people are talking about their struggles and to rattle on about how much you have, and how little we should have? This is not an adult discussion, it's you promulgating your distasteful views.

whattheactualfudge · 09/05/2017 10:35

*CAN I JUST POINT OUT THAT MOTABILITY CARS COST £257 PER MONTH!!!! THE EQUIVALENT OF A LEASE VEHICLE! THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT THERE IS NO CREDIT CHECK!!!

THEY. ARE. NOT FREE!!!!!!!!! *

whattheactualfudge · 09/05/2017 10:36

Away I'm not on ESA I am on Universal Credit???

Antiopa12 · 09/05/2017 10:37

Fudge "absolutely nothing can be done" This is unbelievable and shocking that the rules are not allowing any discretion in your circumstances. We are losing sight of common decency here. Shame on the policy makers who allow this.

whattheactualfudge · 09/05/2017 10:40

Ant Yeah I feel like going to Daily Mail or The Sun. I literally do not know what I'm going to feed my daughter for lunch today. I feel like I'm being punished??? I can't help having Osteo-Arthritis, Rheumatism, M.E, Fibromyalgia, Hypermobility Syndrome, Reynauds & Plantar Fasciitis! But apparently not only do I deserve to be 'punished' but so does my 2yr old daughter?? Hmm

If only the CMS would pull their fingers out and get some money from her supposedly 'missing' Dad....Envy

Dawndonnaagain · 09/05/2017 10:43

Fudge have you tried your MP threaten with the press if you don't get a fast response.

ExplodedCloud · 09/05/2017 10:47

I only want to make 2 points:

  1. BadKnee said "^with 20.3 million families receiving some kind of benefit (64% of all families), about 8.7 million of them pensioners.

That is a lot for those paying tax to bear.^"
It's important not to lose sight of the fact that those benefits include pensions, child benefit and other benefits that are paid to working people. You can be earning £99, 999 as a couple and still claim child benefit.

  1. DLA. It's commonly referred to as a gateway benefit. I believe this is still true of PIP. We don't need DLA. I haven't claimed it but access to many services and opportunities for my dd rely on that. The first criteria is always about DLA. I may have to reconsider so she can access things she does need. And these aren't things you can buy
ExplodedCloud · 09/05/2017 10:50

Should have previewed that!
For clarity
That is a lot for those paying tax to bear. was also part of BadKnee's post and not my words.

ExplodedCloud · 09/05/2017 10:51

Oh and Dawn hope the cold has gone away Flowers

IntheBenefitTrap · 09/05/2017 10:52

I'm in a similar situation to fudge. Tried my MP and she won't respond. Tries press, no interest.

Dawndonnaagain · 09/05/2017 10:56

Exploded, on the mend, thank you! Flowers

PS. Every time I see your name now, I see a cloud exploding. It's different every time, too. Love having the visuals at times! Grin

ExplodedCloud · 09/05/2017 11:01

I love that :)
