I'm not getting this job am I

I had a job interview 24th april and the interviewer told me I wouldn't know 'today, it will be Friday probably'.

So Friday came and went and then there was a bank holiday. I couldn't find a number for HR so I sent an email to customer services and I'm waiting for them to respond.

I felt the interview went well in the sense that it lasted an hour but I could tell they didn't believe the example of competence I gave. It was quite dramatic (but true) and it seemed they were sceptical. At the end they told me about the kind of person they needed for the role and I wasn't really what the described. So I left thinking I'd not got it.

I've two more interviews lined up so I'm trying not to dwell in this but it's highly unlikely I got the job isn't it?

I was personally recommended for this job by another manager and they made some much effort with me to arrange an interview with me. They do have the time to call. I feel really sad that after all the effort I made, they just couldn't be bothered to even call or email.

They send letter out in that council for most things. They haven't even sent a letter.

I had a similar thing happen when I worked for the post office. Turned out I was second choice by a very narrow margin. They offered it to first choice candidate who though about it for a couple of days before saying no. Then they came back to me, hence the delay.

In your shoes OP I'd continue with my further interviews and put it behind you. Good luck with your search.

Finola1step · 03/05/2017 10:32

Continue with your interviews. Form what you have described, no you probably are not the first choice candidate. But after this experience, would you want to be? If you were expecting to be told Friday and they still haven't bothered by Wednesday, do you really want to work for them?

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 03/05/2017 16:05

They could be waiting for referee responses OP. Either for the person they've made an offer to, or, if you have given permission for them to take references anytime, for you.

It's a good sign that you haven't had a "no" on the day they said you'll hear from them. It means you're somewhere in the running.

Are the referees you gave usually slow to act? If no, or if you said not to contact before, then you may be second in running.

I reckon they're just not going to bother letting me know either way!

Which is really rude. I would know by now either way I'm sure.

Should have baked a cake....

BaffledMummy · 03/05/2017 17:00

Sorry Smile. It is frustrating so I do sympathise. I'm still waiting to hear back from an interview I went to with the then FSA....back in 2004! Not a dickie even despite chasing!

MongerTruffle · 03/05/2017 17:02

Which is really rude

Exactly. A rude employer is not the kind of person you want to work for.

OvariesForgotHerPassword · 03/05/2017 17:08

If they're rude enough to not let you know you didn't get it, they're not the sort of country you'd want to work for :) keep your chin up and keep interviewing!

OvariesForgotHerPassword · 03/05/2017 17:09

No idea where "country" came from Grin I meant company Grin

It's so upsetting because of how much effort I went to to interview and how they've not even sent a rejection yet. But the letter may have been lost in the post or will come this week.

Since my job interview invite was by post the rejection might be too.

I don't mind, I just want to know.

It's rude, frustrating and upsetting. I've just spent 8 months job hunting and the disdain employers treat candidates with these days is outrageous. From your OP I too reckon it's a 'no' so onwards and upwards with your other interviews - good luck!

AnathemaPulsifer · 03/05/2017 22:31

Continue with other applications but employers timelines can slip, extra stakeholders can pipe up - don't hold it against them if the response is delayed.

Ameliablue · 03/05/2017 22:57

Most places will let you know but it can take time such as if they are waiting for confirmation that the preferred candidate has accepted and references check out etc. and then it may need to go to another department (HR) to process.

LondonNicki · 03/05/2017 23:07

It sounds like they have made an offer to someone else and are holding back on rejecting you to see if they accept?
Keep going with the other applications and the role that is right for you will find you. My attitude with these things is, if you're not quite what they're looking for then maybe it's not for you and wouldn't make you happy.
Good luck with your search!

Thanks everyone. I have two more interviews lined up. Concentrating on them.

good luck with the further interviews.

I too have been job hunting...since september when my son went to school full time. I've had a few interviews...I'm not a confident person so interviews are really hard for me to do.... I know I can do the jobs just cant get it across in the interview. Its really upsetting when you get told no, or if they dont bother to get in touch...but hang in there.

I've finally been offered a casual job, just odd hours here and there but its a start....still on the look out for a permanent, school hours, term time only job...lol

user1493797837 · 04/05/2017 14:03

I'm confident Day to day.

I just come across nervous and quiet in interviews. I'm working on it though.

I called HR and the HR officer hadn't heard anything from the manager so she's emailed the manager asking for an update and will contact me once she's replied.

I don't think they've offered the job to anyone.

At least I will know either way now (hopefully).

I didn't get the job. She finally called me after being asked to by HR. So rude. At least I know now.

EatsLeavesAndShit · 04/05/2017 20:34

That's a shame User and so rude of the manager not to let you know. If she's like that then it sounds like you had a lucky escape from working with her.

Onwards and upwards! Flowers

user1493797837 · 04/05/2017 20:52

It seems to be commonplace in that particular area. I've had three interviews in the same county and never been told the outcome until I pursued it.

In the city I currently live they always let you know the outcome.

You sent an email to customer services?!

That will have got lost.
