What is this stabbing, prickly pain under my ribcage?

I'm getting quite concerned. It's been gradually increasing over the last couple of days. I've taken rennies the past couple of evenings thinking it was trapped wind or something.

Now every time I breathe it hurts. If I lie on my side it's excruciating. It's spreads from under ribs to above navel in a bad bout, then slacks off for another few seconds, then comes back. I can't fucking move without triggering it.

Any ideas? Gallstone? Sad

Sounds like potential Gallstones, GP in the morning unless it gets worse during the night, then get to A&E.

NaturalBornSloth · 02/05/2017 23:45

Fuck. I'm scared of gallstones and operations. Now also worrying I have a ruptured appendix or spleen or something.

This is going to sound so stupid but - could I have ruptured an internal organ doing yoga as a beginner?!

I think it's gall bladder related too. I'd get along to a GP soonish. Gall stones can be excruciating.

Groovee · 02/05/2017 23:55

Sounds like it's Gallbladder related. Don't be scared x

Not appendix or spleen. Ruptured appendix would be fever, vomiting, pain low in abdomen. Spleen rupture would follow a serious injury to the abdomen.
You would not have ruptured an internal organ during yoga unless you were doing it on the roof and fell off or similar. Generally yoga might cause a strained muscle but considering the number of beginners who try it there are remarkably few internal injuries.
You could ring NHS Direct, but if you are in unbearable pain you may need to go to hospital.
Good luck. Hope you feel better.

I've just read a little about gallstones - I'm early 30's, don't have high cholesterol, and BMI is 26 so not in the obese range. I do have diabetes though so there's a bigger chance of it in diabetics.

It could also be a pulled muscle. Sometimes you can tweak some of the little muscles around the ribcage and when that happens it hurts to breathe.

"You would not have ruptured an internal organ during yoga unless you were doing it on the roof and fell off or similar."

Thank you for making me laugh Grin

Thanks to you all. I will ring up my gp tomorrow, and if it gets really bad tonight will call 111.

I can sort of make the pain back off if I keep my knees bent up near my chest, which isn't very comfortable for my legs or the rest of me but does help the abdominal pain.

Just go to the doctor Hmm

NaturalBornSloth · 03/05/2017 00:13

I can't go to a doctor at midnight, now can I Hmm

I have episodes of bad anxiety. Posting on Mumsnet really helps me work out whether I am being overly anxious about something and worrying for nothing, or actually whether I am justified in my feelings.

I also have quite rocky health. I'm so used to my body getting fucked up I have a bit of dread about doctors and again, posting on Mumsnet helps.

Agree with pp about the likelihood of it being a yoga injury. Grin My gallstone pain was how yours sounds, especially in the position you get relief from it. Try painkillers for sleep tonight and go to GP in the morning. Flowers

VimFuego101 · 03/05/2017 00:35

Did it start on one side? I suspect gallstones too. If it is, i sympathize. Truly worse than childbirth.
