To ask if I am missing anything?

Hoping one of you wise people will be able to help!

My daughter suffers severe back pain due to scoliosis, today was not a good day :(

We've done painkillers, hot baths, wheat bags, plenty of cuddles and chocolate.

Am I missing anything? Anything help with back pain that you know of, mostly muscular, probably some nerve pain.

We only have over the counter medication, ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine occasionally.

Have you looked at the Alexander Technique? Very helpful for scoliosis and lots of doctors support it.

If it's muscular, a magnesium supplement may help.

Would she be a candidate for a spinal cord stimulator? I have been assessed for one but other auto immune conditions need to be ruled out first. I have had spinal fusion and still have ongoing pain issues.

I'd be tempted to go back to the GP for a medication review. Gabapentin helped my pain at its worst as analgesics dont work well for EDS patients. Also life style changes are immensely more helpful I found. And I don't mean aloe Vera etc Also possibly having her vitamin D checked? As a lot of chronic pain suffers are found to have less pain with a vitamin D supplement?

Yoga OP. It's incredibly helpful if you find a good teacher.

I second epsom salts bath. I have a form of EDS and find it helps. She could also try a this relaxation technique which was developed to help people with pain problems which I have found helpful as it also relaxes the whole body.

My Ds has Cp and has pain full muscle spasms in his legs mainly. Gentle massage helps, usually after a warm (not too hot) bath. Tbh I think it's just anything to help him relax and therefore relieve The spasms. Have you had support from the pain clinic?

I've got a very mild scoliosis (no surgery), but have had patches of back pain for years and have found pilates very helpful. I've been to classes and also one on one instruction. I also found a book on pilates specifically for scoliosis called Curves, Twists and Bends helpful:

www.amazon.co.uk/Curves-Twist-Bends-Practical-Wellington/dp/B00DIKRQYC/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1493763507&sr=1-2&keywords=curves+twists+bends&tag=mumsnetforum-21

I've been happy following the book having been to classes before, so might help to have some instruction first if you can. I've also had treatment from an osteopath during bad patches which really helped.

Swimming can also been good because it helps with muscle strengthening but with no impact.

Worth trying a Tens machine every time. I also use Biofreeze, prefer roll-on at about £10, which is a good addition when nothing else works well enough. Usual cooling menthol etc. etc., with extra ingredient of gel from a S.American Holly, no side-effects.

Didn't Gillian McKeith get into nutrition from having scoliosis? Might be worth looking into.

Yoga and Meditation worth a go too.

A good bed?

Thanks everyone, some great suggestions that I'll look into.
She's still sore today but a bit better than yesterday.
